Jose Mourinho has handed Manchester United a £30 million lifeline after giving his approval for Fenerbahce to sign one of Rúben Amorim’s outcasts.
Manchester United are heading into an exciting summer of change, with Rúben Amorim ready to put his stamp on the squad and kickstart a fresh new chapter at Old Trafford.
Backed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, the club are planning a big clear-out — with at least ten senior players expected to leave as part of a bold rebuild aimed at raising funds and opening the door for new arrivals.
Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelöf, and Jonny Evans will move on when their contracts end, while United are looking to cash in on Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho — a trio that could bring in over £100 million.
With decisions still to be made on Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alejandro Garnacho, it promises to be a busy few months — and a summer full of possibilities for United fans.
Mourinho gives approval for summer Sancho move
With United keen to make sure Sancho is off their books this summer, Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are reportedly eyeing a move for the player outcasted from Amorim’s side.
Despite Chelsea’s obligation to sign the player for around £25 million this summer once his one-year loan deal expires, the club has the option to pay £5 million to avoid this purchase, and reports state that they are willing to exercise this.
With this in mind, multiple clubs are circling Sancho this summer. According to Yeni Asir, one such club are Turkish side Fenebahce, who want to bring in Sancho as part of a squad that would dominate the Turkish domestic competitions next campaign.
The report further states that former United boss Mourinho has given his personal approval for the deal to be struck, and that the Istanpul side have already started to test the waters for Sancho.
Mourinho handing United £30m lifeline
Sancho’s sale is so important to United as it not only represents an influx of cash for Amorim to spend elsewhere but also would free up the player’s reported £350,000 per week wages, with United still paying around half of these despite the player being at Stamford Bridge.
If Chelsea are to activate their £5 million option, Sancho would return to United. However, Yeni Asir’s report details that the winger’s potential move would see United pocket a further £25 million in transfer fees.
While Sancho’s return to Old Trafford from Chelsea may seem negative on the surface, if it allows United to still fetch a similar fee to what was agreed with the London side, as well as the £5 million penalty payment, United could earn £30 million from the player rather than the £20-25 million fee from Chelsea.
With Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, and Galatasaray all said to be in the mix for Sancho’s services this summer, United may end up pocketing much more than they bargained for last summer, with Mourinho’s interest throwing United a much-needed financial lifeline.
