Jonathan David’s preferred transfer destination has been revealed as Manchester United are interested in a potential summer move.
Currently sitting 14th in the Premier League, Manchester United have endured a dismal campaign, with a managerial change failing to ignite a turnaround.
Ruben Amorim has been working to implement his playing philosophy since arriving in November, but adapting mid-season has proven difficult.
The club’s only significant signing in January was Patrick Dorgu, who arrived for approximately £25 million. However, the squad remains severely lacking in attacking options, a weakness reflected in their goal tally—just 33 Premier League goals so far.
With the summer transfer window approaching, United are expected to prioritise signing a striker to strengthen Amorim’s squad.
However, financial constraints mean they must be strategic with their spending. Making shrewd, low-cost additions in certain areas could allow them to secure top targets in key positions.
David’s preferred transfer revealed amid United interest
Jonathan David has been regularly linked with a move to Old Trafford before and those rumours have resurfaced since the Canadian striker is set to leave Lille at the end of the season.
David’s contract at the French club runs out and he is not expected to sign new terms, meaning that he will be available on a free transfer.
With 21 goals and 10 assists so far this season, David has been one of the most prolific forwards in Europe and many clubs are likely to be trying to sign him in the summer.
It has been revealed by CaughtOffside that the 25-year-old plans to move to the Premier League in the summer window, with a move to England being his preference.
That limits United’s potential opposition to the signing of David, but the report does claim that the likes of Newcastle United and Chelsea are also monitoring the striker.
David announcement expected soon
David spoke to the French outlet Onze Mondial last month to clarify his future, with only a few months remaining on his Lille contract.
He acknowledged his desire to join one of the “biggest clubs in the world” but stated that no decision will be announced until after the season concludes.
“Yes, I will be free at the end of the season. And as for my future, I hope to grow, to become a better player and to play for the biggest clubs in the world, if I can,” he admitted.
“But first of all, I just want to have fun, never forget that football is fun. I started playing football because I had fun. And even though it has now become a job, you have to remember that I wake up every morning for football, for the pleasure of playing.
“Do you want any clues about my future? You will all know in due time, that is at the end of the season. I will not comment before then.
“First of all, I want to finish this season well, the end looks exciting and I want to play well and help the team. And when the season is over, the decision will be made and announced.”
