Manchester United are reportedly ‘close to signing’ Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra this summer to bolster their midfield options.
After last season, it was clear that Manchester United’s initial priority this summer would be to improve the underperforming forward line.
Matheus Cunha has been signed and the club are also trying to bring in Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. After that, a striker signing will be the priority.
But United are also looking to sign a midfielder this summer, with reports claiming that Ruben Amorim is looking for another energetic option to play in his two-man midfield.
Links have been scarce so far this summer but the latest reports suggest a move for Valencia star Javi Guerra in on the cards.
Italian journalist Daniele Longo has stated that United are ‘close to signing’ the La Liga midfielder.
Guerra price-tag revealed
Guerra, 22, has become a regular in the Valencia side since coming through their Academy system. He played in all but two La Liga games last term, starting 31 of them.
It has previously been suggested that United scouts had been very impressed when watching Guerra and the latest reports indicate the Reds are ready to turn that interest into a bid.
They are not the only club interested in the midfielder, with AC Milan and Atletico Madrid also recently linked with a move.
Last month, it was revealed by Calciomercato.com that Valencia have put Guerra’s price-tag at just over £21 million this summer.
The player’s current contract runs out in the summer of 2027 but the Spaniards are reportedly also looking to tie him down on a longer contract. If that does not work out, United could look to be grabbing a midfielder on a relatively cheap deal.
United need a midfield signing
A midfield signing this summer feels crucial for United, and Guerra, who has been described as “dynamic”, seems to fit the kind of player Amorim wants at the club.
The Spanish player is not only of the ideal age bracket INEOS want, while also having a fair amount of experience, but he is also the kind of physical and athletic profile desired.
There would be question marks over his ability to replicate his game in the Premier League, but the price-point makes any kind of deal less risky.
It does need to be mentioned that the reported price-tag was from before the Reds entered the picture, and we all know about the ‘United tax’ placed on some players.
We will likely hear some developments regarding this potential move in the coming days, with many United fans hoping that the club can start getting more deals over the line.
