Jason Wilcox reveals three requirements for Manchester United signings in 2026 as priority transfer outlined

Jason Wilcox has revealed the three main requirements for Manchester United signings heading into the 2026 transfer windows as one priority transfer has already been outlined.

Manchester United’s form in the Premier League is improving and the club’s latest signings are all looking like strong pieces of business.

The Reds have won three games in a row and Ruben Amorim will be delighted after the season started in mixed fashion.

Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Šeško and Senne Lammens all joined the club in the summer and have been crucial to the upturn in form.

Importantly, while all of those players are showcasing their ability, it also seems like they have the right personalities to deal with the pressure at Old Trafford.

United chiefs made it clear that the latest summer additions were recruited not only based on quality, but also on their character and ability to play at United.

Director of football Jason Wilcox has been speaking about the requirements for new signing ahead of the 2026 transfer windows and explained that talent is not the only thing they are looking at.

He also explains how the Reds want players who can deal with the pressure and fit into the squad to take the team forward. Signing the right profiles has been a big problem at United in the past.

“We have got a clear plan. We know what we have got to do, we know the areas of the team that we have got to improve,” Wilcox said during an interview with MUTV.

“For us to get in the top four and consistently challenge for Champions League places, win Champions Leagues, win Premier Leagues, we have got to invest in the squad. We have got to buy the right players.

“The right players who are talented but also who can deal with the pressure, who can take the squad forward. It is not always about just signing elite talent, they have got to have the right character and be somebody who can bring something different to the team.

“We are really happy with where we are, we know we have got to improve and, you know, the players, they will never be satisfied, Ruben will never be happy, I will never be happy, it is just how we are built.

“We are always looking to improve. Anybody who works at Manchester United should be thinking the same and they do, with the standards we are driving every day.”

United looking for midfielders next year

United fans will be excited to see if Wilcox and the new regime can continue making the right decisions in the transfer market. The latest summer business seems like it will be one of the best windows at Old Trafford in recent years.

It has already been heavily reported that United will prioritise strengthening the midfield next summer, with there being the potential for two or three signings in that area of the pitch. That would also likely depend on whether players like Casemiro depart or not.

Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton are some of the options United are considering ahead of next year and all three of those players have the quality to play Old Trafford.

It is the club’s job to decide whether they also fit into the plan and if they can handle the pressure, and then try to sign whoever fits those requirements best.
