Manchester United’s director of football, Jason Wilcox, will be using two exciting Manchester United players in negotiations for certain signings this summer.
After the summer transfer window opened, it became clear that Manchester United were keen to bolster their squad with proven quality.
Matheus Cunha is through the door while the club are trying to get a move over the line for Bryan Mbeumo despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur.
Those are two Premier League-proven players who immediately improve the level of Ruben Amorim’s side. That has been desperately needed at Old Trafford.
However, the INEOS-led regime at the club are still keen to add exciting talents to their ranks as they have done since arriving in early 2024.
Obi and Heaven already broke into first-team
During the first year with INEOS in charge, United made several signings which fit the same bill – young, exciting players who cost a minimal fee.
Ayden Heaven, Chido Obi and Sekou Kone were all brought in for around £2.5 million combined, while James Overy and Samuel Lusale were also added too the club’s youth ranks.
Out of those players, Heaven and Obi have already started to make strides in the first-team, with Amorim placing them both in his squad in the second half of last season.
They both joined the Reds from Arsenal, with a major reason being the pathway to the first-team at Old Trafford. Not only have United shown that to be true, but now it can also be used to help convince other young players of the move to Old Trafford.
Wilcox can use Obi and Heaven in negotiations
There are three exciting players on the verge of signing for United in the coming weeks.
Diego Leon will arrive from Paraguay after initially signing his contracts last February. Meanwhile, the Reds are also close to securing Enzo Kana-Biyik on a free transfer from the academy of French club Le Havre AC.
Additionally, an agreement has been reached for 16-year-old talent Harley Emsden-James to join the Reds from Southampton this summer.
All three are exciting talents who will cost United low fees – the exact kind of deal that INEOS want to continue making and, for Jason Wilcox, using Obi and Heaven as examples would have undoubtably helped these deals get over the line.

Young players will hear a development plan from every club under the sun but they can use their eyes to see whether a team is actually giving those chances out or not.
Heaven and Obi have proved that you are never too far away from the first-team if you work hard and take your chances well – and that is what all of these other arrivals will be striving for.
