Jarrad Branthwaite responds to Everton’s transfer stance as Man United progress deals elsewhere
Jarrad Branthwaite has responded to Everton’s transfer stance as Manchester United progress in their deals elsewhere.
The Reds are looking to improve their defensive line in the coming months after Raphaël Varane departed the club last week.
It was quickly clear that Jarrad Branthwaite was one of the main options INEOS wanted to join the club. An agreement on personal terms with the player was quickly met by an opening bid.
However, Everton immediately rejected United’s offer, which consisted of a £43 million package, and are now refusing to negotiate on their extraordinary £70 million price tag.
That is reportedly because they are basing their value on deals such as Harry Maguire to United or Wesley Fofana to Chelsea—which makes little sense since both are widely considered ridiculous deals.
Despite this, United have moved on to other targets, likely to Everton’s surprise,, and now Matthijs de Ligt is close to a move. The Reds are negotiating a fee with Bayern Munich, and the defender is keen on the move.
While that deal is independent of the club’s pursuit of Branthwaite, it has made it clear that United are not going to bow down to the Toffees’ demands.
That has understandably impacted the Everton defender, who is keen on the move. His opinion on the situation and his club’s stance have been detailed in reports.
According to MailOnline, Branthwaite has grown increasingly agitated over the lack of movement in negotiations between the two clubs.
That report added that the Reds are considering an improved offer for the 21-year-old, but they will not match Everton’s price tag.
Importantly, information from Football Transfers clarifies that Branthwaite won’t force a move and remains respectful of his parent club. He still hopes a deal can be struck, however.
