While Manchester United may have lost 4-3 against Tottenham Hotspur in a thrilling Carabao Cup final, there are plenty of positives for Rúben Amorim to take on Thursday evening.

Manchester United’s Carabao Cup campaign ended in dramatic fashion as they fell to a wild 4-3 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals, with Rúben Amorim’s team left to reflect on a frustrating night in North London.

United began brightly but were undone by Spurs’ intensity. A spilled save from Altay Bayındır gifted Dominic Solanke the opener, leaving United chasing the game.

The second half started disastrously for United as Dejan Kulusevski doubled Tottenham’s lead, and Solanke soon added a third, seemingly putting the game out of reach.

However, United refused to give up. Bruno Fernandes orchestrated a lifeline, assisting Joshua Zirkzee to pull one back. Moments later, Amad Diallo added a second, setting up a tense final 20 minutes.

United pushed for an equaliser, but their hopes were dealt a blow when Son Heung-min controversially scored directly from a corner, with Bayındır adamant he was fouled.

Jonny Evans managed a late header to reduce the deficit, but Spurs held on, leaving Amorim’s men eliminated in a thrilling yet agonizing encounter.

Carragher’s gives class advice to Yoro

In reaction to the performance, former Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher wanted to discuss United’s back line, which consisted of Leny Yoro, Victor Lindelöf, and Lisandro Martínez, also Lindelöf was swapped out for Evans at half-time due to injury.

Yoro played well against Spurs, playing 90 minutes for United for the first time and earning an 8/10 rating for his display on the right side of the club’s back three.

Carragher was quick to talk about Yoro, explaining that as a young player, he is in a very unforgiving position, and that in future he needs to expand on his ability to read the game.

“When you mention a young centre-back, it’s an unforgiving position like goalkeeper, we know that,” Carragher said.

“So you look at young Yoro, he doesn’t really follow in on the first goal, the overlap on the second goal, that’s something he should read and something he should see.”

Carragher does well in providing constructive criticism to Yoro rather than blasting the player for his errors against Tottenham. Yoro would do well to apply this advice in the future.
