Jadon Sancho’s two-word verdict speaks volumes as Marcus Rashford addresses Aston Villa loan
Jadon Sancho’s reaction to Marcus Rashford’s loan to Aston Villa speaks volumes as the Manchester United winger addresses why he has joined the Premier League side.
Marcus Rashford has joined Aston Villa on a six-month loan, with the 27-year-old seeking a fresh challenge away from Manchester United.
Once the focal point of United’s attack, Rashford enjoyed a prolific 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag in 2022/23. However, his form has since dipped, and he struggled for game time under Rúben Amorim.
With Amad and Bruno Fernandes now key figures in the side, Rashford had not featured for United in over six weeks before making the move to Villa Park.
A product of United’s academy, Rashford made a sensational debut at 18, scoring twice against FC Midtjylland in the Europa League before netting another brace against Arsenal in the Premier League.
Since then, he has made over 420 appearances for United, scoring 138 goals and providing 63 assists, winning five major trophies along the way.
Rashford explains why he joined Villa
The Manchester-born winger was subject to speculation from many clubs throughout the winter transfer window, with AC Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Barcelona all in regular contact with this agent.
However, it was Villa who triumphed in signing the former England star, with the Premier League side paying an initial 75% of his wages and bargaining for a £40 million option to buy this summer.
Although United accepted the move due to Villa’s willingness to cover a significant portion of his wages, Rashford took to Instagram to explain that the main reason he chose to sign is because he just wants to play football on a regular basis.
“I would like to thank Manchester United and Aston Villa for making this loan deal happen,” Rashford said on Instagram.
“I was lucky to have a few clubs approach me but Aston Villa was an easy decision – I really admire the way that Aston Villa have been playing this season, and the managers’ ambitions.
“I just want to play football and am excited to get started. I wish everyone at Manchester United all the best for the rest of the season.”
Sancho’s reaction speaks volumes
While those such as Leny Yoro and Fernandes have reacted to the news, the most interesting reply comes from United winger Jadon Sancho, who is on loan at Chelsea and is set to sign for the London club permanently for £25 million in the summer.

Under Rashford’s Instagram post, Sancho commented, “He’s back! 🤞🏼❤️”, while others such as Alejandro Garnacho and Benni McCarthy wished him the best of luck.
Sancho’s reaction is interesting, considering the player underwent a similar process of being frozen out of the squad by Erik ten Hag in 2023 before being loaned out in the following January.
As one of Rashford’s known close friends, there is little doubt that Sancho will be very familiar with Rashford’s feelings.
The United player explained that he just wants to start playing football again, which is no doubt what he would have expressed to Sancho, and Sancho’s clear delight at the loan move speaks volumes about how important it was to Rashford that he secure his move away from his boyhood club.
