Jadon Sancho call today – What Manchester United and Juventus are discussing during new negotiations

Manchester United are set to hold a new call with Juventus over a potential deal for Jadon Sancho on an important day for the transfer.

Manchester United look set to offload a number of players this summer, with one of them being Jadon Sancho. Ruben Amorim has listed several players that he believes are surplus to requirements and counts the England international amongst those numbers.

Sancho has spent the entirety of Amorim’s tenure at the club out on loan at Chelsea. The 25-year-old had a public falling out with Amorim’s predecessor, Erik ten Hag and was suspended from the squad in September 2023 before being exiled to Borussia Dortmund on loan for the remainder of the campaign.

After failing to offload Sancho permanently last summer, he joined Chelsea for a season-long loan. The London club had an obligation-to-buy clause that would see the move be made permanent for £25 million, but they instead opted to pay £5 million to get out of the clause and send Sancho back to Old Trafford.

Sancho’s base contract with United ends next summer, meaning if a move away from the club isn’t completed this transfer window, he could leave for free in a year’s time. Due to the £73 million that United paid for the winger, this would be seen as a calamitous outcome, so the club are eager to move him on and recoup at least some of their investment.

United’s desire to move Sancho on could soon become a reality as reports from Italy indicate that the club is set to ramp up negotiations for his departure.

Juventus and United’s “new call”

Tuesday could be a significant day in the development of a deal between United and Juventus for Sancho. Christian Corbo from TuttoSport has revealed that “a new call with Manchester is scheduled today to try to further reduce the distance, before possibly proceeding with the definition of the details with the player”.

Other outlets have indicated that Juventus officials are optimistic about signing Sancho for a fee of around £21.5 million. One of the sticking points in the deal is that Sancho’s wage demands are substantial, given that he has another year on his lucrative United contract.

For good or for bad, Corbo believes today will be an illuminating one in terms of the likelihood of a deal with Juventus, stating, “it could become Sancho’s day, the one in which to put the deal on ice and then complete it once the clouds of uncertainty have disappeared”.

Corbo explained that while Juventus’ current priority is signing Sancho, they have other options in case negotiations are unsuccessful and contingencies based on how other deals transpire. Corbo stated that Juventus are somewhat concerned that they may be forced into a “direction of regrets” if they don’t resolve these transfer situations in a timely manner.

How Conceição and Vlahovic factor in

If an agreement can’t be made with Sancho or United in terms of the finances of the deal, then their next target would be Porto’s Francisco Conceição, who is currently on loan at the Turin side.

Juventus are also looking to move on their striker Dusan Vlahovic, who had previously been suggested as a part of a swap deal for Sancho due to United’s need for a striker. This swap deal now seems unlikely to transpire, but the Italian side are still willing to part ways, with the Saudi Arabian side, Al Hilal, interested.

If the Saudi side or another party with an equal bid comes in for Vlahovic, then Juventus are reportedly considering using the funds to bring in both Sancho and Conceição.

The fee they expect to receive for Vlahovic isn’t close to what the £60 million they brought him in for in 2022, but the removal of his hefty salary from the wage bill would allow the club to meet both wingers’ wage demands.

This news should give United some confidence, as if they act too slowly in this deal and Juventus signs Conceição, they’ll still have a second shot at offloading Sancho if Vlahovic moves on.
