“I’ve spoken to the club…” – Manchester United receive major boost as wingback confirms he’s open to summer transfer

Manchester United have received a transfer boost as one of their wingback targets has confirmed he’s open to a move this summer.

The initial focus this summer for Manchester United has been bolstering their forward line, with Matheus Cunha signed and Bryan Mbeumo being pursued.

Ruben Amorim’s side were dreadful in front of goal last season, which makes their transfer priority completely understandable.

However, the Reds need to improve other areas of the squad ahead of next season, with the centre of midfield and wingback being two positions they plan on strengthening.

Despite the arrival of Patrick Dorgu in January and the anticipated signing of 18-year-old Diego Leon this summer, the Reds have not ruled out an additional signing on that left flank.

One player who has been linked with the club is Pervis Estupinán, with United having enquired about the Brighton defender in recent weeks.

Estupinán is open to summer transfer

Estupinán has emerged as a consistent performer for Brighton and has now made over 100 appearances for the Premier League side since arriving in England three years ago.

As an attacking left-back, he is clearly viewed as someone who can excel in the slightly more offensive role under Amorim at Old Trafford.

Estupinán has provided a boost for the Reds after admitting in a recent interview that he is open to leaving Brighton this summer and has already spoken to the club about this.

“The truth is they have been three years in Brighton with a lot of learning,” he told Maria Jose Flores of El Canal Del Futbol after Ecuador’s draw with Peru earlier this week. “But this will be a transfer market with a lot of movement.

“The club know that I would like to grow, that I would like to keep growing. The club have understood this. I’ve spoken to the club.

“The club have given me this bit of freedom to be able to make a decision. Now we will try to see better what is on the table and to see where we can go.”

United will expect major improvements with new wingbacks

The arrival of another wingback is needed at Old Trafford but it doesn’t necessarily matter which side they play on – with Dorgu having shown that he can play on both flanks.

Amad is also expected to play from that right side more often next season if the club get a deal for Mbeumo over the line this summer.

It was clear during periods of last season that United struggled in games due to the personnel playing on the flanks, with Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui not suited to the demand of those roles.

With improved personnel in those positions, United will hope to see some major improvements in the team’s overall play next term.
