Victor Lindelof has been a man of inspired form across the last six weeks as Manchester United draw their 2022/23 season to a close.

Having to step up after Lisandro Martinez‘s season was ended through an unfortunate injury in April, Victor Lindelof has made a statement of intent with his performances for Manchester United of late.

Before his brilliant turn of form, Lindelof was placed on a list of seven first team players who Erik ten Hag was looking to sell once the summer window opened in order to raise funds and make space for new incomings to improve his squad.

However, the Swede has subsequently returned some fantastic displays in key moments, such as against Brighton in the FA Cup semi-final, where it was the No. 2 who played a full 120 minutes to keep a clean sheet before smacking home the winning penalty in the resulting shootout.

Much has been made of Lindelof’s form since the beginning of April, with the central defender himself admitting that he thinks he has been playing well.

“Of course, I think I’ve been performing well,” he told MUTV. “And I think every time I’m on the pitch, I just want to help my teammates to perform and to win the game and I think I’ve done that.”

On Thursday evening, Lindelof started as Manchester United defeated Chelsea 4-1 at Old Trafford, securing a place in next season’s Champions League group stages and moving to third place in the Premier League ahead of the final day of the season.

“I think this season we’ve been performing some great football and I think we really deserve this spot in the Champions League,” he explained.

Speaking further on Champions League qualification, Lindelof said: “That was always the target for us. I’m very pleased that we achieved that. I think everyone is very pleased with that.”

When asked what a major difference has been between last season and this season, Lindelof was quick to explain that it’s the mental aspects of the beautiful game which has seen a shift in the squad.

“I think the mentality and the effort everyone puts in. I think everyone knows exactly what to do on the pitch, we have a system and everyone knows what they’re doing out there.”

“We wanted to make Old Trafford our fortress and I think we’ve done that this season so we can’t thank the fans enough for that.”
