Injury expert provides Lisandro Martínez assessment after Manchester United star forced off vs Crystal Palace

Lisandro Martínez was forced off with an injury during Manchester United’s embarrassing 2-0 loss against Crystal Palace.
Manchester United suffered a 2-0 loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon after a disappointing display from Ruben Amorim’s team.
The Portuguese manager opted against starting a traditional striker, leaving Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee on the bench.
Instead, Kobbie Mainoo was deployed as a false nine and made an early impact by striking the post, but his influence faded as the match wore on.
United started brightly, but Palace remained a constant threat on the counterattack and eventually capitalised in the second half.
Jean-Philippe Mateta scored twice after the break to secure the victory for the visitors, while Lisandro Martínez was forced to be replaced after what looked to be a serious knee injury.
Injury expert assesses Martínez injury
It was a heart-breaking moment for Martínez, who has been in-form recently, after an awkward fall onto the Old Trafford turf.
The Argentine immediately knew it was serious and signalled to the bench that he needed to be taken off. He was placed in a stretcher and visably upset as he exited the field.
Ángel Villanueva, a physiotherapist expert in sports injuries, assessed the situation afterwards and believes that the United defender has suffered anterior cruciate ligament tear.
Villanueva posted on X: “In the video we can clearly see how the player sticks his left leg causing a dynamic valgus with torsion that leaves no room for doubt. In this case it seems that the boots could have been a key factor in this injury.”
If this is the case, it would be the end of Martínez’s season, who has already struggled with injuries during his time at Old Trafford.
Leny Yoro would be the most likely option to move across to the left side in his absence, while new signing Ayden Heaven could also get more game-time than initially expected.
Amorim speaks on Martínez injury
Amorim could not provide any huge details on the issue for Martínez after the game but claimed that it seems like a serious injury.
“Lisandro’s injury? I think it’s a serious situation,” he admitted when speaking to reporters.
“He’s not only an excellent player but also a strong character in the locker room. He felt terrible, and when you’re a player, you know when it’s something serious.
“We’re here to help him.”
