INEOS are fixing huge mistake made under Richard Arnold this week, Man Utd fans were fuming

INEOS are set to fix a huge mistake which was made under former Manchester United chief executive Richard Arnold this week.

Manchester United have played four pre-season friendlies so far this summer as Ruben Amorim’s side prepare for an important season.

The Reds faced Leeds in Sweden before playing three games against West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton during their tour of the United States.

Before their Premier League opener against Arsenal next weekend, United will face Italian side Fiorentina at Old Trafford on Saturday in their final friendly clash.

United legend David de Gea will be returning to Old Trafford to play for the first time since his controversial exit in the summer of 2023.

INEOS fixing De Gea mistake made under Arnold

When it was confirmed that De Gea had left the club two years ago at the end of his contract, it was surprising for all of the wrong reasons.

Messy is an understatement when discussing that situation. Reports at the time were flipping between the idea of extending his contract and not.

Even when his deal expired, there were murmurs about the club offering him a new deal. There was major uncertainty and, in the end, he was not offered that contract.

Richard Arnold and John Murtough were in charge of the club at the time as chief executive and football director, respectively, and they handled the entire situation with De Gea poorly.

While opinions were split on whether the goalkeeper should have actually left the club, everyone would agree that he deserved to have a better send-off than he did in the end. Many fans were angry about how things occurred.

De Gea’s final match for the club at Old Trafford came against Fulham in May 2023. He saved a penalty but everyone – including himself – were still unaware about where his future lied.

Now, two years later, INEOS will finally give the club legend the farewell he deserved at Old Trafford as he returns to the club while playing for Fiorentina.

Fernandes sends De Gea playful message

De Gea has also received a playful message from ex-teammate Bruno Fernandes ahead of his United return this weekend.

“David, my friend,” said Bruno in a video shared on United’s social media channels this week.

“Can’t wait to see you at the Snapdragon Cup. Hope you enjoy being back at Old Trafford to see your fans, to see your house, to see your home.

“At the same time, I hope I score some goals against you and we enjoy the day together.”

The club captain was close friends with De Gea during their time at the club together and he will not be the only one delighted to see the Spaniard back at Old Trafford.
