“In talks…” Omar Berrada breaks silence on Manchester United transfer plans, two transfers to follow Matheus Cunha signing

CEO Omar Berrada has addressed the plans that have been made as Manchester United head into the summer transfer window with Matheus Cunha as their first signing.

Manchester United’s summer rebuild is gathering pace, with Rúben Amorim making decisive moves to reshape the squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Jonny EvansChristian Eriksen, and Victor Lindelöf will leave when their contracts expire, while Alejandro Garnacho has reportedly been told he can seek a new club. Rasmus Højlund is also available for transfer if the right bid comes in.

United are prepared to part ways with Marcus RashfordAntonyJadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia, aiming to generate over £100 million in sales to support Amorim’s transfer plans.

The new head coach is focused on strengthening the attack and midfield, with an emphasis on improving technical quality, athleticism, and physical resilience.

Determined to build a side capable of matching the intensity of the Premier League, Amorim is being backed to oversee one of the club’s most significant overhauls in recent years.

Berrada outlines United planning for the summer window

With United currently in Malaysia on a post-season tour, club CEO Omar Berrada spoke to the club’s media channels, where he was asked about United’s transfer activity.

He explained that, although he cannot reveal any specific information, he assured that the club have a “very clear” plan on who the club want to sign and sell in the coming months.

“Yeah, I can’t talk about specifics, but I can say we have been planning for many months now,” the Frenchman explained. “We were ready for all the different scenarios and now know what we need to do.

“We have a very clear idea where we need to invest in the squad to improve. So Jason [Wilcox, technical director], his team and Rúben have been in talks, as I said, for many months.

“Now it’s a question of executing that plan and doing it in a way that is prudent but, at the same time, with ambition.”

United’s first summer transfer is already in place, with two likely to follow

Although Berrada was wary not to reveal any specific plans, the club are already set to announce the signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million.

Cunha will undergo his medical with United this week before signing a five-year contract believed to be worth around £200,000 a week and become Amorim’s maiden signing this summer.

With Cunha’s move nearing completion, United are also hoping to secure the signing of Liam Delap in the next few days. The English striker is set to make a final decision on his next club this week, amid interest from Chelsea, Newcastle, and Everton.

United have already informed Delap’s current club, Ipswich Town, that they are prepared to activate his £30 million release clause and have agreed personal terms with the 22-year-old, who is taking his time to assess which club would be best for his future development.

If the Old Trafford side manage to wrap up the Cunha and Delap transfers quickly, they are also hoping that they can strike a deal with Brentford frontman Bryan Mbeumo, who would be a major coup if they secure the right-sided forward who netted 20 Premier League goals last season.

Mbeumo is thought to be available for around £50 million this summer, and United have already held talks with his representatives, although Newcastle are also said to be considering a bid, and may be in a stronger position with Champions League football on offer at St. James’ Park.

Even if United fail to secure either or both of Delap and Mbeumo, it’s expected that a new striker and further attacking reinforcement will still be signed following Cunha’s arrival.
