“I’m upset…” – Ole Gunnar Solskjær disagrees with one INEOS decision at Manchester United
Ole Gunnar Solskjær has revealed that he disagreed with one decision INEOS decided to make at Manchester United last year.
Former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær returned to coaching for the first time since leaving Old Trafford in 2021 earlier this year.
The Norwegian took charge of Beşiktaş in January, citing the passionate Turkish fanbase as a key factor in his decision to return to management.
His tenure began in impressive fashion as Beşiktaş secured a dominant 4-1 victory over Athletic Club in the Europa League—which handed the Spanish side their first defeat in the competition.
Since then, Solskjær has won a further five games, drawn once and lost another. They currently sit fourth in the Super Lig standings.
Solskjaer unhappy with McTominay’s United exit
The ex-United boss sat down for an interview with The Athletic this week, where he was asked whether he can still watch United games.
Solskjær explained that he still watches along when possible, and claimed that he is glad to see Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire doing well at the club.
However, the Norwegian added that it “upset” him that the Reds allowed Scott McTominay to leave to Napoli after being so important for the team last year.
“[I still watch United] when I can,” he said. “It’s still good to see Bruno Fernandes and Harry [Maguire] doing well.
“And Scotty [McTominay] is doing well at Napoli. I’m upset that we let him go because he was important last season when he kept popping up with goals.
“His heart and his knowledge of the culture were important.”
McTominay was an important player when Solskjær was in charge, playing 115 games under the ex-United boss – the most game-time he’s had under any manager during his career so far.
McTominay shining at Napoli
The Scottish midfielder is now thriving in the Serie A and challenging for the title with Napoli under Antonio Conte.
They are currently second in the table, just one point behind league-leaders Inter and McTominay has become a key player for the Italian side.
The ex-United midfielder has started every league fixture since the third game of the season after his summer transfer. He has six goals and four assists in that time.
Erik ten Hag admitted that he didn’t want the 28-year-old to leave Old Trafford but it was a decision made at board level.
INEOS made the decision to sell McTominay as he would be considered as pure profit in a time where United needed cash to fund summer transfers.
It was something that Ten Hag didn’t seem to be a fan of, and Solskjær appears to have the same opinion
