“I’m pretty sure…” – Matt Doherty makes stunning Matheus Cunha transfer prediction amid Man Utd talks

Wolves defender Matt Doherty has made a stunning transfer prediction about his teammate and Manchester United target Matheus Cunha.

Manchester United have made Wolves star Matheus Cunha one of their priority signings for the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Brazilian forward would certainly be an upgrade on the current options at Old Trafford. He currently has 15 goals and six assists in 29 appearances in the Premier League this term.

Reports have suggested that an agreement is close between the player and club, while United are willing to activate the £62.5 million release clause in his contract.

It seemed clear that Cunha would depart Wolves at the end of the season and now the Reds are the leading candidates for his signature.

Doherty makes stunning Cunha transfer prediction

Wolves defender Matt Doherty has been speaking about his teammate and made a stunning prediction for his future amid the transfer interest.

The Irish international believes that Cunha needed his move to Wolves to find his best form after struggles at Atletico Madrid, but now suggests that the 25-year-old is ready for the next challenge.

Doherty says that Cunha should be “playing at the highest level imaginable”, and that he’s expecting that to come sooner rather than later.

“Sometimes it takes you moving away from a place to find yourself and realise what you need to do to get back to your best,” the defender told Sky Sports when asked about Cunha.

“Because he could be – should be – playing week-in, week-out for them… for Atletico Madrid. But for whatever reason that’s not the case.

“But I’m pretty sure he’s going to be playing at the highest level imaginable – with Champions Leagues and stuff like that – pretty soon… huge, huge potential.”

Cunha will be assigned with leading United

While there is no guarantee that Cunha would immediately be playing at the ‘highest level imaginable’ at Old Trafford, he would be one of the players assigned with leading the team to those heights.

It is certainly big praise from Doherty and shows the kind of player which United seem to be getting their hands on when the summer window comes around.

Cunha might be playing in the Champions League next term as United can still qualify by winning the Europa League this season.

But even if he isn’t, Cunha will have belief that he can help lead the club back to that competition as one of the first signings of the new rebuild under Amorim.
