“I’m leaning towards…” Chris Sutton makes bizarre Fulham vs Manchester United claim and score prediction

Chris Sutton has made a rather bizarre prediction about Manchester United’s trip to face Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Manchester United are set for their first away test of the 2025/26 season as Rúben Amorim’s Reds travel to West London to face Fulham.

Their campaign began with a 1-0 defeat to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at Old Trafford, though the performance offered several positives.

Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo both caught the eye on their first starts for the club, while Benjamin Šeško made his debut up front.

Amorim will be aiming for his side to build on that showing and earn their first victory of the season.

Sutton makes bizarre Fulham vs United prediction

Chris Sutton has released his usual pre-match predictions ahead of the weekend’s matches, and has made his thoughts clear on United’s fixture against Fulham.

Although he claims he is leaning toward a United win, Sutton bizarrely explained that, as he predicted many Fulham matches wrong last campaign, the result will most likely be a draw.

“Like a lot of people, I try to be balanced about Manchester United,” Sutton told BBC Sport. “They lost last week but I do think they will be better this season. Well, they can’t be any worse.

“I really like Bryan Mbeumo, and I especially like Matheus Cunha. I think he’s got loads going for him. Fulham were fortunate to get something against Brighton, but I think they’ll improve in front of their own fans.

“Fulham don’t play with any fear and will take the game to Manchester United, which gives me a sneaking feeling United will exploit them and win this one.”

He concluded: “But then again, I always predict Manchester United games wrong. I want to be positive about them, but I’m not sure I can be. Plus, I think I predicted Fulham wrong for every one of their matches last season. I’m leaning towards a Manchester United win, so, because of that, I’ll go for a [1-1] draw.”

Amorim must focus on United’s performance

Last season, United often rose to the occasion against stronger opponents – with wins over Arsenal and Manchester City as proof – but struggled against so-called lesser sides.

Amorim highlighted that the Arsenal match was one of the first since his arrival where his team maintained intensity for the full 90 minutes, a hugely encouraging sign.

Still, United failed to score, and that must change at Fulham – but not at the cost of cohesion or control.

On Sunday, Amorim’s side must avoid slipping back into scrappy wins or flat performances; instead, they need to turn dominance into goals.
