Ian Wright praises “immense” Man United player with 100% dribbles & 57 touches vs Liverpool
Ian Wright has praised the “immense” Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo after his performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final.
Mainoo, 18, produced yet another wonderful display for United, this time against their bitter rivals Liverpool, in a mouth-watering 4-3 victory.
The teenager was replaced minutes before Antony’s late equaliser to send the game into extra time, but he had already made a huge impact on the match.
With 4/4 dribbles completed, 31 passes, 57 touches, 2 tackles and 7 duels won, it was another game that got people speaking about Mainoo.
One of those people was former Arsenal striker Ian Wright, who seemed perplexed that Gareth Southgate ignored the 18-year-old in the latest England squad.
The England manager instead decided to stick by 33-year-old Jordan Henderson, whose biggest highlight since leaving Liverpool has been blocking a pass out for a throw-in at Ajax.
In a video posted to social media platform X, formally known as Twitter, Wright said: “How is Kobbie Mainoo not in that [England] squad? Roy [Keane], how is Kobbie Mainoo not in that squad?
“Come on, man. Come on, you know? The man was immense today, gosh.”
Mainoo has now started 17 games for Erik ten Hag’s side this season. Negotiations for a new contract for the teenager are ongoing.
United will face Coventry City in the semi-final of the FA Cup at Wembley, with the other tie being Manchester City vs Chelsea.
