“I’m telling you…” Ian Wright pegs Manchester United star to become “unbelievable” under Rúben Amorim
Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has pegged Bruno Fernandes to become an “unbelievable” player under Rúben Amorim at Manchester United.
Rúben Amorim oversaw his first match as Manchester United head coach, guiding the team to a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town.
While the result and performance were far from spectacular, Amorim’s vision for the team began to take shape, particularly evident in Marcus Rashford’s well-crafted opening goal.

United adopted Amorim’s signature 3-4-3 formation, although injuries and players returning from international duty meant several were deployed out of position—a temporary solution, as Amorim later clarified.
Noussair Mazraoui was utilised as a centre-back, Amad Diallo operated as a wing-back, Rashford led the line as the No. 9, and Alejandro Garnacho took on the role of a left-attacking midfielder.
Fernandes can be “unbelievable”
Bruno Fernandes played the role of the right-sided attacking midfielder during the game, although he was often given his freedom to create across multiple areas of the field over the 90 minutes.
Despite not being overly involved in attacking play, mostly due to communication errors across the board within the side, Fernandes still showed moments of quality against Ipswich.
In reaction to the result, Ian Wright explained that he feels Fernandes will become an unstoppable player under Amorim once the right players are around him.
“Can I say something though in respects to Bruno Fernandes. He’s going to be even better,” Wright declared on the the Kelly and Wrighty Show.
“He’s going to be unbelievable, even seeing it in flashes, he was picking up the ball and he had options, I’m telling you, once he gets the right players, we’re going to see something.”
Who else is set to thrive?
Former United star and club captain Gary Neville also had his own say on who he feels will become certain starters at the club once Amorim settles into his favoured XI.
“I think Luke Shaw, if he can remain fit,” he said earlier this week. “As I think that left centre-back needs to eventually be able to play out as a left-back, so he is well suited to do both.
“I think Ugarte will be a winner, just because I think in midfield, not just because he’s played for him before.
“I think Mainoo and Ugarte for me, playing midfield, I think they’re absolute certs. I think Luke Shaw’s a certainty to play. I think he would be any way in a back four or a back three.
“I think ultimately you’ll end up with Yoro as the right-centre-back, I think just because of that energy and that pace. So, I think the ones who are more flexible and agile are going to be the winners.”
Amorim is expected to make multiple changes to his XI as the club face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League. It will also be his first game at Old Trafford.
