Ian Wright believes that Marcus Rashford’s incredible form at Manchester United this season is down to two main factors.

Rashford, 25, scored his 12th goal of the season for The Reds in their 3-1 FA Cup victory against Everton. He created both of United’s other goals too.

The forward scored just five times for the club last season but looks reborn under the management of Erik ten Hag.

During pre-season, Rashford explained the importance of getting a proper break and recovery period after dealing with ongoing injuries for a number of years. That is bearing fruit now.

“We’re talking about someone who for the first time in a long time after last season he’s actually had a break,” Wright explained on ITV. “That time when he was playing, he went through bad form, when he was playing under Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] – Ole still played him.

“He’s a young player that got himself into a situation where he was needed, he was playing, it wasn’t going well for him then obviously the stuff he was doing off the field, people using that as like it was causing him a problem – it wasn’t, he’s still doing the same stuff now.

“But the fact is that he’s had a rest, he’s playing in a team that suits the way he’s playing at the moment, and he’s ready to go. He’s in form at the moment.”

The former Arsenal striker also gave credit to Ten Hag, who has got Rashford, and United, playing in a set system that brings the best out of the players.

“He is in a different frame of mind. The manager has come in and is playing a brand of football that suits him,” he added.

“He [Rashford] knows exactly what he is doing. He’s had a break and he’s fit. The club is starting to turn a corner in terms of where they are going. He is one of the main reasons behind what they are doing.”
