“I want…” Rio Ferdinand names star Manchester United must ditch to secure his ‘ideal transfer’

Rio Ferdinand says “I want Osimhen” in damming statement, as he reveals one Manchester United star should be used in Napoli swap deal

Manchester United’s strikers will always be scrutinised more than other players in the first team squad, especially when the team is playing as poorly as they are now.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have both struggled to cement themselves as the starting centre-forward, with the Dutchman even dropping back and playing as a number 10.

Chido Obi has also played up for Ruben Amorim’s United team this season, but he is too young to be considered a starter week in, week out.

Rio Ferdinand believes that the Red Devils need a more experienced striker, naming Victor Osimhen as his ideal transfer target.

Garnacho to Napoli in Osimhen swap

Ferdinand has revealed that he believes Alejandro Garnacho should be used in a swap deal for Osimhen in the summer transfer window.

Speaking on Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former Old Trafford captain said, “If I’m Man United, Osimhen comes to Man United next year. I am making it happen.

“The caveat to that [Osimhen to United], if I am advising Garnacho, I say I want to go to Napoli. I want to go play left wing at Napoli, and the deal would be I want Osimhen to come the other way.”

Ferdinand went on to explain why he thinks its best if Garnacho leaves the club, “If we had a manager who plays with wingers, I am not selling Garnacho.

“But the system that the manager wants to play does not suit him… this system is only going to hold him back.”

Another academy graduate to leave United?

In recent times, the number of Academy graduates leaving United and going on to be great players has been significant.

While it shows the Academy is working, it also asks the question of why aren’t academy players succeeding at United?

Angel Gomes was very well thought of in the Academy but he felt a move away was his best option and now he looks set to move back to the Premier League, potentially returning to the club.

Scott McTominay left the club in the summer and is now shining at Napoli; Marcus Rashford is on loan at Aston Villa, playing excellently; even Alvaro Fernandez has proved he is a quality player, just months after leaving United.

Too many academy players are leaving the club before they reach their full potential, then they go on to prove how good they are at other clubs. Selling Garnacho could be another similar mistake.
