“I want…” – Bundesliga midfielder gives ‘intriguing’ response when asked about potential Manchester United transfer

One Bundesliga star has given an ‘intriguing’ response when asked about a potential move to Manchester United this summer.

After a disappointing campaign, Manchester United are moving quickly in the transfer market in a bid to strengthen the squad ahead of the upcoming season.

Matheus Cunha has already been confirmed as Ruben Amorim’s first signing of the summer, and Bryan Mbeumo is eager to follow, with United expected to begin talks with Brentford this week.

The club is also in the market for a striker, and the addition of these three players would significantly improve an attack that struggled last season. However, more reinforcements are still needed.

A key priority remains in the middle, where United must add quality and depth to bolster their engine room.

With Christian Eriksen having left the club and uncertainty surrounding the regular roles of Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, and Casemiro in the holding position, a midfield signing is essential.

Bundesliga midfielder responds to potential United move

One midfielder who has been regularly linked with an Old Trafford move over recent years is Bayern Munich star Leon Goretzka.

The Bundesliga star fits the bill when you consider that energy is an important aspect Amorim wants in the engine room in his 3-4-3 system.

There haven’t been many rumours surrounding the German international so far this summer but it could potentially become an option if Bayern decide to cash in on him before his contract expires next year.

Christian Falk, a Munich-based journalist, spoke to Goretzka about a potential move to Old Trafford this summer and noted his response as ‘intriguing’.

The Bayern star said: “I’m very focused on the tournament here [Club World Cup] and am happy to be at Bayern. I want to help the team next season as well.”

Goretzka not the right signing for United

Even if Goretzka became an option for United this summer, it doesn’t seem like a deal that INEOS would do for two key reasons.

Firstly, the midfielder is already 30 years ago, which is four years older than any other signing made at Old Trafford since the new regime took over.

Then you also consider that he already earns over £200,000-per-week at Bayern, and would be unlikely to accept a pay-cut, then the deal makes even less sense with the Reds attempting to lower their wage bill.

Goretzka would not be a transformative signing for United in 2025. It is a move that might’ve been considered a couple of years ago but not anymore.
