“I think…” – Thomas Frank breaks silence on Bryan Mbeumo to Manchester United after failed Spurs approach

Tottenham Hotspur boss Thomas Frank has broken his silence on Bryan Mbeumo rejected a reunion to instead join Manchester United.

After a long, drawn out saga, Manchester United have finally reached an agreement with Brentford to sign Bryan Mbeumo this summer.

The Reds saw two bids rejected before an eventual offer worth £65 million, plus an additional £6 million in potential bonuses, was accepted this week.

Mbeumo will join Ruben Amorim’s side on their tour of the United States and fans are extremely excited to see him in action.

Not only will the Cameroon international bring quality on the pitch, but he also had a clear desire to join the club, which is exactly what United need right now.

The 25-year-old rejected Champions League clubs like Newcastle and Tottenham in favour for a United move, even after his ex-Brentford boss, Thomas Frank, joined Spurs.

Frank breaks silence on Mbeumo to United

One of the many twists in the Mbeumo saga had been the arrival of Frank at Spurs, a move which could have easily influenced the attacker into changing his decision.

But Mbeumo stood firm on his belief that United was the only club for him, and Frank has been asked about the situation during his first Spurs press conference.

While he refused to directly mention whether Spurs attempted to sign him, the Danish manager explained how he believes Mbeumo ‘deserves’ whatever move he chooses.

“Bryan [Mbeumo], of course, is a fantastic player. I have been with him for five years,” Frank told reporters on Friday.

“I think he deserves the move, no matter where he goes. And as a player, I wish him all the best when you’ve been with a player for so long.”

Why Mbeumo and Cunha’s arrivals are different

Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have both decided to join United despite the poor position of the club last season, and interest from elsewhere.

While there are obviously going to be players the club miss out on due to the lack of Champions League football, such as Liam Delap, they are getting something very important with the additions they are getting.

Signings at United this summer will not be arriving to coast through the journey like so many have done in the past. These players are joining to help be part of a project to turn the club around.

That is important for United, whose players have often been guilty of failing to apply themselves or treat every game as important as a big derby, for example.

Mbeumo will be joining United’s squad in a couple of days and he will be excited to get to work at Old Trafford.
