‘I need to take the next step’ – Manchester United given encouragement in race for game-changer forward

Manchester United are targeting a number of players at this moment in time, but they may just have gotten a huge boost regarding one of their top targets ahead of the summer window.

The Reds are anticipated to add to Ruben Amorim’s forward line this summer, with the two inside ten positions expected to be areas of improvement when the window opens.

Amorim has been pleased with Alejandro Garnacho and Amad, but there is a feeling the Portuguese manager would like some more options to bolster the position, which is vital within his system.

One player United have been interested in for a long time has been linked with a move away from his club, and he may have just given the red side of Manchester a come-get-me plea with his recent words, speaking on the speculation regarding his future.

With the player available for £62.5 million this summer, it’s a deal Manchester United are unlikely to turn away from if they receive more encouragement.

Cunha hints at Wolves summer exit

Manchester United have been given a boost in their pursuit of Matheus Cunha, with the Brazilian highlighting in a recent interview that he is likely to take the next step this summer and move on to a bigger club.

Cunha joined Wolves on loan in January 2022 before the deal was made permanent in the summer of that year. The reported fee at the time was around £44m, which means the Molineux stadium side is set to profit from the player’s sale, should it happen this summer.

Speaking to The Guardian, Cunha had the following to say: “I had a lot of offers but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it.”

“Some things you can’t control, but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.”

“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”

United have long since been linked to Cunha, with links dating back to before he signed for Wolves. Links have intensified in recent months after the arrival of Ruben Amorim, considering the system he deploys, and the Reds are expected to be one of the clubs fighting for his signature when the time comes.

Cunha would be a game-changer for United

Cunha’s quality is undeniable, and his ability in the number ten position could take United to the next level. He should be viewed as a must-have internally at the club, and despite £62.5m being a major fee to pay for someone at a club so far down the table, the Brazilian is worth every penny.

Being Premier League-proven is an underrated trait, and Cunha has not only proved he can play in the Premier League, but he’s proved that on form he’s easily one of the best players in it.

In a summer where United have to get things right in the market, Matheus Cunha seems like one signing that they could make that is destined to be a success.
