One of Belgium’s current internationals has revealed it continues to be his dream to play for Manchester United after his move failed to materialise in the late 2010s.
Manchester United has a legacy that transcends football; it isn’t simply just a football team in Salford, but a religion that is followed by millions across the globe.
Even in their worst period in Premier League history, Rúben Amorim’s side still has the pull to attract players who should be playing Europa League or Champions League football.
Matheus Cunha has recently joined the club from Wolverhampton Wanderers for just £60 million, despite his previous side finishing the season level on points with Manchester United.
David Ornstein and Fabrizio Romano have reported that Bryan Mbeumo wants to join United from Brentford, despite the lack of European football on offer.
Great players will always want to play at Old Trafford because of the history of United, even Bastian Schweinsteiger has expressed how much he enjoyed his time at the Red Devils, saying his love for the club began as a child.
Meunier reveals his love for United
Former Athletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier has revealed his love for United in an interview for Gazet van Antwerpen. United tried to sign the defender a few times between 2017 and 2019, but a move never quite materialised.
“If they ever ask me, I will cycle there [to Old Trafford],” said the LOSC Lille defender when asked about the possibility of playing for Amorim’s team.
“But maybe it’s better this way [not playing for United]. Suppose I play there and have a bad time. I wouldn’t want to hate Manchester United, because I love that club so much.”
Meunier later added: “I went to watch them a few weeks ago, against Bilbao. In with the fans, singing à fond (fully). Je suis un vrai (I am a real one). I go to watch them at least once every season.
“But of all the home games I’ve seen in all those years, they’ve only won two. You have to have a self-cruelty side to be a United supporter, right?”
Amorim must keep the Theatre dreaming
Old Trafford, also known as the Theatre of Dreams, is a place where magic happens, a place like no other. Even this season, where the Red Devils have looked appalling, United still came back to defeat Olympique Lyonnais, with three goals in the last six minutes.
Casemiro and Harry Maguire have seen a new wave of support since their brilliance back in April, but these moments have to keep happening, and they will only happen if the team improve.

United cannot be a team that finishes in the bottom half of the Premier League; they must start fighting for league titles again and competing in Europe, or the magic will simply fade away.
The fans back the club through thick and thin, but even they will begin to tire of United if they don’t see a clear vision.
