One £60 million Manchester United attacking target is now set to remain at his current club, despite receiving interest from the Premier League and Real Madrid
The 2025 summer transfer window will be crucial to Rúben Amorim’s success as Manchester United manager, with some fans already questioning the Portuguese manager’s system.
United have already been linked to several targets, especially in forward areas of the pitch, likely due to Rasmus Hojlund’s poor run of form in front of goal.
Hojlund’s struggles wouldn’t be as worrying if goals were coming from other areas of the pitch, but Bruno Fernandes and Amad have been the only two who look likely to score in recent Premier League games.
However, before his long-term injury, Amad was largely playing as the right wing back, meaning another attacking midfield option is needed in the summer to play behind the centre forward next season.
Alejandro Garnacho has played there in Amad’s absence, but his future is still uncertain, so United have been looking for another No.10.
Akliouche set to remain at Monaco
One United attacking target is Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche, who mostly plays as a right winger in Adolf Hutter’s 4-4-2 formation.
The Red Devils were rivalling Manchester City and Real Madrid for Akliouche’s signature, with Monaco demanding just under £60 million, according to Get French Football News.
The French youngster has enjoyed his best season, scoring seven goals and registering 12 assists in his 42 appearances this season.
However, Akliouche now looks set to stay at Monaco due to his comments after the 2-0 win at home to Olympique Lyonnais.
“I am under contract at Monaco and I hope that I will be here next season, why not?” said Aklicouhe after it was confirmed that the club had qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
Mainoo must not be forgotten
While United should be looking to improve the squad in almost every position, it is important not to forget the talent already at the club.
Kobbie Mainoo is one of the most talented players to come through the Premier League in recent years, but he is being pushed to the side under Amorim.
The Portuguese manager doesn’t appear to know his best role, constantly switching him from attacking midfield to back in the double pivot and he just needs to play consistently.
When at his best, Mainoo is unplayable and can single-handedly take victory from the jaws of defeat, as he did against Wolves last season and Lyon this season.
He needs to start playing regular football, or he will want a move away and United will lose one of the best talents of this generation.
