“I hope he stays…” – Man United star addresses Erik ten Hag exit rumours after FA Cup win
One Manchester United star has explained that he hopes Erik ten Hag will remain at the club despite reports he will be sacked.
Manchester United secured a 2-1 victory over Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley, winning the trophy for the first time since Louis van Gaal’s tenure in 2016.
Alejandro Garnacho gave the Reds an early lead by capitalizing on a defensive error from City to score into an open net.
Kobbie Mainoo doubled United’s lead before halftime, finishing a superb team move with a goal set up by Bruno Fernandes.
Despite a late goal from Jérémy Doku that intensified the pressure, United held on to clinch the cup.
Jonny Evans replaced Lisandro Martínez mid-way through the second half to help see the game out. The veteran defender rejoined the club at the start of the season.
There have been various reports that have claimed Ten Hag will be sacked from his Old Trafford post, with the FA Cup final win not giving him enough credit to remain for another season.
The Northern Irish international has explained to reporters how he believes Ten Hag has adapted well during difficult circumstances and wants him to stay at the club despite reports.
“I’ve only got good things to say about him, and I think over the last month or so, he’s shown, you know, incredible technical flexibility to be able to sit off and counterattack,” he told reporters at Wembley.
“I know it’s not the style he probably, he sees himself, you know, coaching, but he’s been able to do it, and he’s recognized the right time to do it, and, you know, the last month or so, we’ve shown some good performances.
“I think on a personal level, like I said before, he’s been amazing for me, so I can only thank him for that, and, you know, I have a good relationship with him, so I hope he stays.”
