“I fancy them…” – Chris Sutton makes controversial Manchester United vs Brighton prediction

Chris Sutton has made a controversial prediction ahead of Manchester United’s clash against Brighton in the Premier League this weekend.

Ruben Amorim likely had mixed feelings after Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Southampton on Thursday night.

While the Reds earned a vital three points after a difficult spell, their performance was underwhelming against the Premier League’s bottom side.

Without Amad’s late hat-trick heroics, United could have easily lost and found themselves in even deeper trouble in the table.

Attention now turns to the next match, where Brighton, led by Fabian Hürzeler and sitting ninth in the league, will provide a much tougher challenge than the Saints.

Sutton predicts United vs Brighton scoreline

Former Premier League striker Chris Sutton believes that United are still a “work in progress” after that win – something every fan would agree with.

But the ex-Blackburn Rovers player is not certain that United can secure victory against a “much tougher” Brighton side.

He does suggest that Amorim’s side may be able to get something out of the game and predicts a 1-1 draw for the Sunday afternoon clash.

“They remain a work in progress and there are going to be lot more bumps in the road for Amorim,” Sutton said in his BBC Sports column.

“This might be one of them, because Brighton are much tougher opposition than Saints were.

“The Seagulls got back to winning ways in the league against Ipswich on Thursday. I fancy them here more than I do United, but I am going to go with a draw.

“As I mentioned earlier, United have got a habit of getting something out of games, and this time they will find a way of getting a draw.”

United need good performance vs Brighton

United cannot really accept dropping points right now as they need to exit the slump which has left them deep into the bottom half of the table.

Victory against Brighton would only move United closer to the pack of clubs chasing European qualification but a good performance is also just as important.

After good displays against Liverpool and Arsenal, it was disappointing to see the Reds slip in terms of standards when they faced Southampton.

Amorim and several players have mentioned the need to turn up in these games as well as the bigger ones, and this is another chance to prove they can do that.
