Manchester United striker Rasmus Højlund has broken his silence on rumours linking him with a move to Inter Milan this summer.
Manchester United endured a dismal campaign last season, and it was particularly challenging for Rasmus Højlund, who often appeared out of his depth as the team’s lead striker.
The Danish forward managed just four Premier League goals throughout the season, and in the closing months, he struggled even to hold up the ball effectively.
While there’s speculation surrounding his future, what Højlund truly needs is time away from the game—a proper break to clear his head and recover from a season that drained his confidence.
Instead, the 22-year-old is currently on international duty with Denmark and featured in their narrow 2-1 victory over Northern Ireland on Saturday evening.
Danish media slammed Højlund for a poor performance on the night and he was then asked questions about his future at Old Trafford after full-time.
Højlund breaks silence on Inter transfer rumours
There have been a lot of reports about interest coming from Italy for Højlund, particularly from Champions League finalists Inter Milan.
It has been claimed that Højlund is open to joining the Serie A giants and that United are set for club-to-club negotiations over a potential deal.
However, the player himself has explained that his stance is to stay at Old Trafford, reiterating that he has is tied to the club for another five years.
“I have a contract until 2030, so I expect to play for Manchester United,” the 22-year-old told TV 2 Sport in an interview after the Denmark game.
“I’m looking forward to a little summer break, and then I’m fully dedicated to the project.”
This follows on from UtdDistrict exclusively revealing that Hojlund explicitly told his entourage that he would like to remain in Manchester and fight for a place in Amorim’s team.
Højlund would finally have United role he was supposed to have
It seems clear that Højlund wants to stay at Old Trafford and that will only change if the club tell him that he is not a part of their plans anymore.
For the Reds, they would probably only do that if interested clubs are willing to spend the cash on the underperformer rather than offering loan deals.
United are set to sign a striker this summer regardless of what happens with Højlund and working as a backup could be exactly what the 22-year-old needs.
Seeing that he was starting another gamer for Denmark on the weekend was surprising but another poor performance was not – he needs some time away from the pitch.
If he ends up staying at Old Trafford, it seems like Højlund would finally end up playing the role he was supposed to have when he joined two years ago.
