“I don’t know why…” Manchester United man left Jamie Redknapp in shock after horror moment vs Chelsea, Roy Keane disagreed

In Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, one Manchester United star left Jamie Redknapp in complete shock after a poor decision in the second half.

Manchester United suffered another disappointing defeat in the Premier League, as they were defeated 1-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in another poor display.

Rúben Amorim’s side started the game well, as it looked like Harry Maguire had given United an early lead with a volleyed finish from the edge of the box. But the English defender was found to be just offside after a VAR check.

After the good start, United reverted to their usual Premier League standard as they let Enzo Maresca’s team take control and through as if they weren’t there.

Andre Onana kept the score level until the 71st minute when Marc Cucurella found himself unmarked in the penalty area, scoring a header from a Reece James cross.

The changes of Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte couldn’t get United back into the game, but Ayden Heaven did return to action after a long spell out injured.

Onana shocks Redknapp with his positioning

Andre Onana started his first Premier League game since United’s 1-1 draw with Bournemouth and made several good saves to keep Amorim’s team in the game, but one decision left Jamie Redknapp in complete shock.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Redknapp commented on Onana’s decision making after the Cameroonian goalkeeper gave away a penalty, before it was overturned due to a lack of contact with the player.

When asked about the potential penalty, Redknapp said: “The other thing I’ll say about that one, I don’t know why Onana has come over here [edge of the box].”

Roy Keane later added his thoughts on the decision, contrasting Redknapp by explaining that he felt Onana ultimately made the right decision, as the penalty was overturned.

“Obviously, he meant the right decision. I think a smarter player with a bit more experience [than George], with a knuckle a bit wider, and fallen into the goalkeeper.

“He’s [Onana] a little bit lucky. He’s done that previously. We got to the right decision, but don’t give him a chance. Again… Why is he coming out there?”

Onana will be trusted for the final

Despite his poor performances this season, Onana has to be trusted for the final against Tottenham, with Altay Bayindir also struggling when he has been given a chance.

A new goalkeeper could be signed in the summer, with links to Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, but United’s No.24 has to play on Wednesday night.

United’s goalkeeping department could be set for a complete overhaul in the summer, as Bayindir looks set to be sold in hope for more game time, ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Tom Heaton also looks set to leave United, with Fabrizio Romano all but confirming that he will retire at the end of the 2025 season.
