“I am told…” Manchester United’s new stance on Bryan Mbeumo after Brentford rejection and “very clear” player message

Manchester United have taken a fresh stance on the transfer of Bryan Mbeumo this summer following Brentford’s rejection of their opening £55 million offer.

Manchester United’s summer transfer window has kicked off to a stunning start, with the club submitting a formal offer for Bryan Mbeumo just days after signing Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million.

The club also received the news that Bruno Fernandes has chosen to stay at United this summer despite a mega-money offer from Al-Hilal.

After securing Cunha and keeping Fernandes, United have now turned their focus to securing Mbeumo, who has already informed the club that he is keen to join Rúben Amorim’s squad this summer.

United submitted a bid of £45 million plus a further £10 million in add-ons to sign the Cameroon international, but this was rejected by Brentford, and talks are expected to continue in the coming days.

United now full of confidence in Mbeumo deal

After Mbeumo gave United the signal that he was keen to sign for their project despite intense interest elsewhere, the club headed straight into talks with Brentford surrounding his signing.

Despite their opening bid being rejected by the West London club, journalist Graeme Bailey has explained that there is “full confidence” among those involved that a deal will eventually be finalised.

“Man United have come in with their opening offer… It’s not enough,” Bailey told TBR Football.

“Brentford won’t take less than £60 million – indeed, they put him at least on par with Matheus Cunha at £62.5 million, so United could very well need to go another £10 million.

“However, the two clubs are talking – and I am told there is full confidence of the deal going through. The player’s camp is already in broad agreement over terms.”

Mbuemo has been very clear to Brentford

Earlier this week, it was reported that there was a slight concern that Brentford might play hardball with their Cameroon star and activate the one-year extension in his contract to protect his value and force United to pay more for his services.

However, with manager Thomas Frank having admitted several times that Brentford are aware they are a “selling club” and there being confidence that a deal will be finalised, it looks unlikely that Brentford would act in bad faith and pull a trick such as this to increase his value.

Mbeumo himself has been “very clear” to Brentford that he wants the deal to be finalised and for his move to Old Trafford to be processed as soon as possible, with Frank’s side expected to grant his wish.

Once Mbeumo and Cunha are both through the doors at Old Trafford, United are expected to turn to sales to raise funds for the possible signing of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres, having already established contact with the Sweden forward’s camp.
