Victor Lindelöf was forced off the pitch with an injury in the first half of Manchester United’s defeat to Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

Manchester United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup on Thursday evening after a dramatic 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

It was an undeserved loss for Ruben Amorim’s men, who were punished for mistakes but still managed to control the game and score three goals.

Joshua Zirkzee, Amad Diallo and Jonny Evans all scored on the night and there were a lot of positives to take from the performance.

However, Altay Bayındır was heavily criticised after making two mistakes for the Spurs goals and it was not a perfect night for several other United players.

Lindelöf suffered injury setback after poor start vs Spurs

Victor Lindelöf started in the middle of the back three, with Leny Yoro to his right, who pe and Lisandro Martínez to the left.

It was the Swede’s first start for United since the 2-0 victory against PAOK at the beginning of November due to recent injury troubles.

He looked uncomfortable and almost cost United a goal early on with a sloppy pass out to the right wing and shortly after that he suffered another injury.

The 30-year-old came off just before half-time and looked viably upset, just like Mason Mount when he was forced off against Manchester City on the weekend.

Amorim provides update on Lindelöf after Man Utd defeat

Amorim was asked how serious Lindelöf’s injury is after the defeat but was unable to give any major details, although the comments from the boss made it seem like it might keep the defender out for a little while at least.

“I think he has something that we have to assess to say specifically what he has, but it’s tough to lose a player,” the head coach told club media.

“They work really hard, they want to return but like I said with Luke Shaw and Mason Mount, they had injuries and don’t have space to train.

“Just preparing games, it’s not perfect. We will try to do it again all together to have the full squad because with this schedule you need the full squad.”
