How much Tottenham are willing to pay Bryan Mbeumo as they ‘plan transfer hijack’ for Manchester United target

Tottenham Hotspur are planning to attempt a transfer hijack for Manchester United target Bryan Mbeumo as they are set to appoint Brentford manager Thomas Frank.

Manchester United have started their business strongly this summer. They announced the signing of Matheus Cunha on the first day of the window.

Movements then started occurring on the Bryan Mbeumo front after he told the likes of Newcastle, Tottenham and Arsenal that he wanted to join the Old Trafford club.

United have reportedly agreed personal terms with the 25-year-old and are prepared to reach the £60 million mark with their second bid.

However, Spurs are set to announce the appointment of Brentford boss Thomas Frank following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou and he reportedly wants them to try and steal his star forward from United’s grasps.

How much Tottenham are willing to pay Mbeumo

According to The Mirror, Frank is ‘keen’ for his new club to attempt a transfer hijack for Mbeumo despite the player making his preference to join United clear.

Despite being the manager who has taken him to the top level, Mbeumo is still favouring an Old Trafford move to become a key part of the rebuild under Ruben Amorim.

The report claims that United are willing to offer the player a wage package of £150,000-per-week which then can rise to around £200,000-per-week with add-ons.

Meanwhile, Spurs are said to be putting a £130,000-per-week contract on the table for the player, and while the total package with add-ons still falls short of United’s entire offer, they do have the lure of Champions League football and Frank, his long-term manager.

Also, it should be noted that Mbeumo would likely be earning more initially if he joined Spurs as United are without any European football, which reflects in the player wages.

It was added in a report by The Sun that Spurs are also willing to match United’s second bid of around £60 million for the player who scored 20 Premier League goals last season.

United are acting quickly with Mbeumo deal

These developments could perhaps be a concern if United were not acting quickly this summer but everything suggests that they want this deal done as soon as possible.

With Mbeumo’s clear preference being a move to the club, there seems to be a minimal chance that Spurs will have the opportunity to snatch this deal from the Reds, although they still need to be careful.

From another angle, if the reports are to be believed, it also gives a truer reflection of the wages Mbeumo will be earning at Old Trafford, with the £250,000-per-week rumoured previously being wide of the mark.

Mbeumo being on an initial £150,000-per-week which can rise to around £200,000-per-week seems like the correct ball-park as INEOS look to improve the wage structure at Old Trafford.

Ideally, United can get this deal over the line in the next couple of days so there is no chance of Spurs trying to swoop in while the window is closed next week.
