How much Manchester United need to spend to secure Bryan Mbeumo as Brentford ‘compromise’ expected

Brentford are expected to compromise on their valuation of Bryan Mbeumo as Manchester United prepare for their second bid.

Manchester United opened talks to sign Bryan Mbeumo this week after the Brentford star made it clear that he wants to move to Old Trafford.

After securing the signing of Matheus Cunha on the opening day of the transfer window for £62.5 million, the Reds immediately moved for Mbeumo after he communicated his preference.

An opening bid of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons was rejected by Brentford, who are reportedly keen to secure a similar price to what United paid for Cunha.

Despite this, United are confident of securing a deal and are preparing to make a second offer to the Bees for the forward in the coming days.

Brentford and United compromise expected for Mbeumo

Brentford do not want to be pushed over in negotiations for their star man, and the fact they can still extend his contract – which expires next summer – by another 12 months gives them more power.

However, they also do not want to get in the way of Mbeumo’s preference, which is clearly a move to Old Trafford, after giving them such wonderful service.

Reports from Pete O’Rourke have revealed that Brentford and United are expecting to have a ‘compromise’ on the fee required for an agreement in this deal.

It was explained that the Bees want between £60-65 million overall for the player, meaning that United will likely have to come closer to that lower part of that range in a package around £60 million. Although, there will probably have to be some changes with the add-ons.

“I’m sure there’ll be a compromise met somewhere in the middle, probably, to get this deal done. Brentford, are reluctantly willing to let Mbeumo go.” O’Rourke told Football Insider.

“Obviously, no deal has been agreed as yet, but United have made that first offer, which is a bit below Brentford’s valuation of the player, £45million plus £10m in add-ons.

“I think Brentford will be looking closer, probably to the £60m-£65m mark for Mbeumo. But yeah, look, there’s a willingness from Man United to get this deal done, and Mbeumo wants to move to United, so I still fully expect the move to go through.”

How Mbeumo helped United in talks

United’s first two targets of the window both had release clauses, which takes out the difficulties of club-to-club negotiations. That is something the Reds have struggled with over the years.

Whether it is being convinced to buy players for much more than they were worth or not even being able to get a deal done at all, United have not been successful in such talks.

It seems like they are going to secure Mbeumo for a price relevantly close to what others would have had to pay, and that is partly because the player had already communicated his desire to join.

That has led to Brentford being unable to rely on any kind of bidding war involving the likes of Newcastle or Arsenal, and should help the deal get over the line much more smoothly than United fans are used to.
