Manchester United are eager to improve their forward line even further and Yan Diomande is among the targets they are considering to bring in.
Manchester United signed the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Šeško during the summer transfer window to improve their frontline.
Even though those three players have offered clear upgrades in attack at Old Trafford, there remains a desire to bring in another forward player.
That is partly due to the potential exit of Joshua Zirkzee, who is eager for a move away from the club in January. United would need a replacement if the Dutchman was to leave.
Antoine Semenyo had been the standout choice for Ruben Amorim but the Bournemouth star has decided to join rivals Manchester City in the mid-season window.
There have been rumours surrounding RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande joining the Reds and further details have been provided about the youngster.
How much United believe Yan Diomande is worth
Diomande, 19, has emerged as an exciting prospect in the Bundesliga, with six goals and three assists in 14 appearances so far this season.
He fits the kind of profile United have been targeting under INEOS as he is young and has a lot of room to improve into a top player but he will cost a hefty price.
Despite only signing him for around £17 million last year, RB Leipzig value the attacking talent at £87 million and don’t want to sell him in January.
According to Ben Jacobs, as per United Stand, clubs interested believe the real price for the player would be closer to £70 million and that figure may drop further depending on clauses included in the deal.
The numbers involved make it seem like a January move is almost impossible for United to complete, although they may keep an eye on Diomande ahead of the summer.
United need this profile
United looked extremely lethargic against Wolves in their last game and there have been too many times this season where they cannot flip a game on its head.
That is partly down to the lack of an exciting and direct attacking profile. Cunha and Mbeumo have both been great signings but neither will drive at pace down the wing like Alejandro Garnacho or Marcus Rashford used to.
Now that doesn’t mean that they are worse or better players, but it is a profile that United now lack and they are players who can help switch things up when their team is struggling.
Semenyo was clearly the first choice to provide those skills and Diomande appears to be another option. It will be interesting to see if United manage to bring this kind of player into the club this month.
