How Ethan Ennis played vs Crystal Palace in Doncaster Rovers FA Cup defeat

Manchester United loanee Ethan Ennis started for Doncaster Rovers in their defeat to Premier League side Crystal Palace as they exited the FA Cup.

Ethan Ennis moved on loan to Doncaster Rovers during the January transfer window to taste his first action in the professional game.

The Manchester United starlet had been impressing for the club’s Under-21s side in the first half of the season after recovering from a long spell out with injury.

Ennis made his Doncaster debut in the FA Cup third-round, where he came off the bench before a shock penalty shootout win against Championship side Hull City.

Since then, the 20-year-old has made six appearances for the League Two outfit, with four of those being from the start.

How Ennis played vs Palace

Doncaster hosted Crystal Palace in the FA Cup on Monday evening and Ennis started the game at left-wing for Grant McCann’s side.

The United loanee was not too involved on the ball, with just 13 touches in the game, but showed his worth with some intense work off the ball.

He managed to nip in and win a loose ball on a number of occasions, including one where he was fouled badly afterwards by eventual goalscorer Daniel Munoz.

In fact, there were many calls for the Palace winger to be sent off for the nasty challenge which Ennis needed to receive treatment for. Instead, Munoz had no booking and VAR was not in use to overturn the decision.

Otherwise, Ennis wasn’t too involved for the hosts and they entered the interval 1-0 down after Munoz scored from a free-kick routine.

The United loanee was replaced at the break. It is yet to be confirmed whether it was an enforced change due to the injury but it is likely that McCann did not want to take any risks.

Doncaster continued to push in the game but Palace secured their 2-0 win after Justin Devenny provided a smart lob to double the lead 10 minutes into the second half.

With his injury history, Ennis will be hoping that there are no serious issues after that clash and he can be available when Doncaster return to league action against Grimsby Town on the weekend.

Doncaster currently sit third in the League Two standings and Ennis will be eager to be part of a promotion-winning side in his first loan spell.
