Benjamin Sekso has already had an impact following his move to Manchester United even though he is yet to feature in a game yet.
Manchester United kicked off the summer transfer window in style, securing Matheus Cunha from Wolves on day one, swiftly followed by the addition of highly rated young defender Diego Leon.
After protracted negotiations, the Reds also landed Bryan Mbeumo, with all three recruits joining Ruben Amorim’s squad for their U.S. tour.
The club have since added the final piece to their revamped attacking lineup by signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko for an initial £66 million.
Sesko was unveiled at Old Trafford before the final pre-season friendly with Fiorentina and is now expected to make his debut next weekend when United face Arsenal at the Theatre of Dreams.
How Sesko ‘has already had an impact’ at United without playing
Sesko will be busy in training this week as he prepares for the start of his Premier League career but the Slovenian star is already making an impact with his move.
That’s according to Miran Zore, reporter for one of Slovenia’s largest football websites Nogomania, who has explained the influence Sesko’s transfer has already made in his home country.
“For a small country like ours, this is huge news,” Zore told The Athletic. “We only have one Premier League player, Jaka Bijol of Leeds United, so this will have an enormous impact.
“Our biggest star in world football is our goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, but other than we don’t have any — apart from Sesko.
“And with him having a big role at such a big club, it will change things here a lot. The Premier League is very different to Leipzig. But he has already had an impact. Even now.
“We’re not used to big stars in Slovenia, we are not particularly fanatical. We are not a country where football shirts are sold in great quantities. It’s not like in the UK, where people buy a new one every season.
“Here, you buy a jersey and then you stick with it. But with Sesko, everything is changing. I see a lot of people now with his name on their jerseys. At national team matches, of course, but also on the beach. And this is totally new here.”
Sesko’s influence will only grow with goals
Sesko’s arrival at Old Trafford is already generating a buzz and shifting perceptions back in Slovenia; a testament to the enduring stature of Manchester United.
The 22-year-old was eager to take the next step in his career and, although United’s recent performances on the pitch have fallen short, their influence off it remains undeniable.
The club are determined to ensure that this off-field appeal is matched by a compelling footballing vision. Every new signing so far has pointed to the project presented by United as a decisive factor in their decision to join.
For Sesko, however, the impact is already being felt in his homeland, where football is far from a national obsession. That influence will only deepen if he can make his mark on the scoresheet once competitive fixtures get underway.
