Manchester United face Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon with seven first-team players out of action for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Despite winning against Wolves in their opening game, United were fortunate to collect three points on the day and were then punished for another poor performance against Tottenham Hotspur the following weekend.

The game against Forest provides an opportunity for The Reds to kickstart their season with a solid display at Old Trafford.

However, Ten Hag is dealing with multiple injuries to key players. Luke Shaw has been ruled out for a number of weeks and there is concern that it could be longer. Tyrell Malacia is also out of action, whilst Brandon Williams has been sent on loan to Ipswich Town.

That leaves the United manager with minimal left-back options, however, he is confident that he can deal with the setback. “Definitely we have solutions in our squad to cope with that,” he said during his pre-match press conference. “We thought before the season about this scenario, what could happen. You hope to avoid this scenario, that’s also clear, but if it happens, you have to be ready for it. And we are ready to deal with it.”

Meanwhile, Mason Mount is also unavailable for selection until after the international break. Although his likely replacement will either be Christian Eriksen or Scott McTominay, it has also been reported that Hannibal Mejbri is in contention to be within the squad.

Ten Hag also provided a positive update on new signing Rasmus Hojlund, whose debut for the club has been delayed due to a minor back problem but could return for Arsenal next weekend. “Today, for the first time, he came into team training,” revealed the Dutchman. “Next week we expect him to do a full week with all the team trainings. So he’s very near to making the squad.”

Anthony Martial could make his first start of the season after appearing from the bench last week. He has also started behind-closed-doors fixtures against Everton and Burnley.

Other absentees for United include Tom Heaton, Kobbie Mainoo, and Amad Diallo. Harry Maguire also missed the last encounter against Spurs with a knock.

The visitors could be without several first-team players for their Old Trafford visit, with Wayne Hennessey, Omar Richards, Felipe, and Olaoluwa Aina unlikely to appear.

New loan signing Andrey Santos could be set to feature from the bench for Steve Cooper’s men.

Meanwhile, former Red Anthony Elanga could make his first start for his new club after two appearances from the bench in the opening fixtures. He grabbed an assist minutes after coming on during Forest’s 2-1 loss against Arsenal.
