Rasmus Hojlund could make his Manchester United debut against Arsenal next week after Erik ten Hag confirmed that he is now in team training.

The Dane has been unavailable for selection since he signed for United earlier this month due to a small back problem.

Now. however, he has taken part in his first team training. Although it is too early to play this weekend against Nottingham Forest, a debut against Arsenal next week seems increasingly likely with a full week of team training under his belt.

“Today, for the first time, he came into team training,” confirmed Ten Hag. “Next week we expect him to do a full week with all the team trainings. So he’s very near to making the squad.”

Meanwhile, the Dutch boss has a selection headache for the upcoming games at left-back, with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia forced out of action.

It is likely that it will be a decision between Diogo Dalot or Alvaro Fernandez at this point in time, with Ten Hag stating that his team are ready to deal with the setbacks.

“Definitely we have solutions in our squad to cope with that,” he added. “We thought before the season about this scenario, what could happen. You hope to avoid this scenario, that’s also clear, but if it happens, you have to be ready for it. And we are ready to deal with it.”

However, reports from Samuel Luckhurst state that United are now in the market for a left-back on a short-term basis following the injury to Shaw.

This could have an impact on the signing of a midfielder that Ten Hag was keen on in the last days of the window.

United face Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon, with a protest against the Glazer ownership expected to come following the full-time whistle in the form of a 60-minute sit-in.
