“His talent was evident…” – Harry Amass completes second loan to Championship following “impressive” spell

Harry Amass has left Sheffield Wednesday after a six-month loan spell, with his new club now confirmed.

Manchester United starlet Harry Amass has enjoyed a breakout season so far in the first half of the season for Sheffield Wednesday.

Due to the precarious financial situation of the Yorkshire side, only a six-month loan was agreed in the summer as the left-back was promptly recalled by United at the start of the January transfer window.

However, he left his mark, becoming a crucial member of the Wednesday side. Despite their struggles in the league, he played 22 games and picked up one goal and one assist in that time. The 18-year-old was also awarded the player of the month award for his side for November and December.

Since his return to the Red Devils, numerous different Championship sides have enquired about his services on loan. One surprise club managed to seal the deal.

Amass completes shock move

Despite links to clubs in the top half of the Championship, like Stoke City, who are pushing for the playoffs, Amass has made the switch to Norwich City.

Sitting in 20th, the Canaries are firmly in the battle for survival as they sit two points above the relegation zone.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils were happy to let the defender return to Wednesday, but Norwich offered a better financial package.

Norwich’s sporting director, Ben Knapper, gave a glowing report about the player to club media. He said: “Whilst still in the very early stages of his journey in the professional game, his talent was evident for all to see during the first half of the season, throughout an impressive loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.

“He has shown he is clearly ready to compete and excel at this level, and he’ll add quality and strengthen the left-back position for us.

“He’s fit and ready to go, and we’re looking forward to him helping the group and contributing to moving the club up the table for the remainder of the season.”

Amass to gain invaluable experience

While a move to another struggling side in the Championship may come as a surprise despite links to teams at the top end, this move could offer a lot more invaluable experience.

At Wednesday, their fate was almost sealed due to them being on minus seven points because of a points deduction; at Norwich, though, it is different.

The Canaries are still in a position to fight for their safety and stay in the league. With Amass now in a side playing for something, that added level of pressure will help him grow, especially mentally.

With Luke Shaw not getting any younger, if Amass impresses yet again at Norwich, perhaps from next season under a new manager, he will begin to be blooded in and fight for a place with Patrick Dorgu.
