Ruben Amorim has recently introduced several young talents into Manchester United’s first-team squad and more are expected to appear before the end of the season.

Manchester United have endured a tough season so far, and the managerial change to Ruben Amorim in November has yet to deliver significant improvements.

The Portuguese coach has been working to establish his playing style while coping with several difficulties, including injuries to key players.

Amorim has been including Academy prospects in the senior squad, handing first-team debuts to Chido Obi and Harry Amass.

Several other promising youngsters have also trained with the squad and appeared on the bench, eager to earn playing time before the season ends.

Amorim hints at Kukonki debut for United

Ayden Heaven suffered an injury setback last week and while the issue is not deemed to be as serious as initially anticipated, he could still miss some games when club football returns.

That could give an opportunity for another young defender to come into the squad and Amorim has already hinted that one player is ready for the opportunity.

Godwill Kukonki was the first Academy star that Amorim moved into the first-team and included in matchday squads. At the time, the defender was just 16 years of age.

The teenager appeared on the bench in three Premier League fixtures earlier in the season and Amorim suggested that he was ready to contribute.

Speaking in December, Amorim said: “He’s 16, but he impressed me a lot, so it’s also a sign to the youth players that they can be here.

“If something happened with the first team, they have to step up and I think he’s ready, he’s very adult to handle the Premier League’s demands.”

Kukonki could re-emerge as first-team option

Kukonki has not been involved in a first-team squad since January and has instead been getting game-time with the youth sides.

Tyler Fredricson has been the Academy centre-back preferred on the bench in recent games, but he is right-footed and more likely to be involved on that side.

With Lisandro Martínez already ruled out for the rest of the season, Heaven became the only left-footed centre-back option in the first-team.

Kukonki could end up re-emerging into the squad towards the end of the season as he can offer that to the side and also has that trust from Amorim.
