Sir Alex Ferguson has given his opinion on a new Manchester United star who has impressed him so far this season.
After a slow start to the Premier League season, Manchester United have begun to click into gear after going five games unbeaten in the league for the first time under Rúben Amorim.
Summer signings Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Senne Lammens have grown into the season and have been a large part of the positivity that surrounds the club at the moment. Before his injury, Benjamin Šeško had also shown signs that he was getting used to the linkup play with his teammates.
Going into the international break, United sit one point behind Sunderland, who are fourth in the league and only four points behind Manchester City in second.
Consistency is a buzzword that has often been associated with United due to their previous inconsistencies. However, it is no surprise that after fielding a consistent spine of the XI, consistent results have followed.
Sir Alex Ferguson praises Senne Lammens
The goalkeeping department for United, since David De Gea left in 2023, has been nothing short of a nightmare.
From André Onana, who now finds himself on loan at Trabzonspor, to Altay Bayındır, high-profile errors surrounded both goalkeepers.
Since his debut, Lammens has brought calmness and steadiness to not just the team but the fans in the ground. Naturally, with an assured figure in goal, it is easy to see how the good results have followed.
Though it is still early in his United career, he has been given praise from the most legendary figure in the club’s history.
As reported by United In Focus, speaking after the Bahrain International Trophy, Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Well, they are, the signs, the manager has had some good times. Particularly, the goalkeeper has been outstanding. He’s only had three or four games, but he’s looking really good.
“Of course, Mbeumo and Cunha, the new players from Wolves and Brentford, they’ve added to it. I hope the manager has a bit of success; the signs are getting better.”
Blueprint for next summer’s transfer window
The signings from INEOS’ first summer in the 24/25 season had a varied degree of success. However, last summer was undoubtedly a success for United, which is something that has not been said often. The transfer system overhaul led by Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell has clearly borne fruit.
Going for Premier League proven players mixed in with some of the best young talent in Europe shows the clarity the club has right now, which they lacked for so long under Ed Woodward.
This clarity allows for United to sign players that suit specific profiles rather than buying world-famous names and hoping they fit in with the team.
The major positives are that the club are showing no signs of slowing down. With consistent links to Premier League stars like Carlos Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Antoine Semenyo, as well as young prospects dotted around the world, hopefully United can continue the success of last summer.
