“He’s been excellent…” – Wes Brown sings praises of out of action Manchester United star

Wes Brown has heavily praised one Manchester United star, who has been out of the side since Michael Carrick replaced Darren Fletcher.

Manchester United have been simply excellent since Michael Carrick replaced Darren Fletcher as interim head coach. Fletcher took charge of United for two games as United searched for a Rúben Amorim replacement, with Carrick the name they decided on, although he hasn’t been named as an “interim”, but just head coach until the end of the season.

Despite his short-term status, Carrick has already won plaudits for his style of football and impressive results against Manchester City and Arsenal. Several players have proved crucial to him, including Patrick Dorgu.

Dorgu started as the left-winger in both games and scored in each game, too. His goal against City showed his determination to get to the ball ahead of the City defenders, while his goal against Arsenal… wow. That was special.

His injury will be a big blow for United and Carrick, but Matheus Cunha should make an apt replacement. The Brazilian is one of several players to drop out of the side under Carrick, despite starting under Fletcher and Amorim regularly.

Cunha has impressed from the bench, but Wes Brown has sung another’s praises, despite not starting under Carrick or in Fletcher’s final game in the FA Cup against Brighton.

Brown sings defender’s praises

Ayden Heaven dropped out of the side against Brighton, despite being the best player in Amorim’s final days in charge. He has not started and only featured in the final minutes against Manchester City in place of Luke Shaw.

But this hasn’t stopped him from receiving praise from former defender Wes Brown. On Inside Carrington, Brown said: “When Ayden’s been in, he’s been excellent.

“And you’re still sort of waiting for him to do some sort of fault that you can see. You think, ‘Ok, learn.’ And he will always learn. And, you know, he’ll be learning every game and every training session.”

Despite few minutes under Carrick, Brown believes Heaven will continue his development on the sideline. “Because it’s very difficult to play at Manchester United, you know, to not make many mistakes and to stay focused at such a young age,” said Brown.

“And yes, he’s not been in the last couple of games. And I think it’s perfect what Michael’s done. He’s put the more experienced players in. But Heaven will learn so much from Harry [Maguire].”

The Maguire problem

Maguire has been immense since his return to full fitness against City. He’s partnered Lisandro Martínez in an excellent defensive duo, despite their struggles when first paired under Erik ten Hag.

However, Maguire’s contract expires at the end of the season, with no option to extend for a further year.

He appears to have already become crucial to Carrick, especially while Matthijs de Ligt remains out injured. So, should United reward him with a new contract? Would Maguire sign a contract on lower terms?

United have a huge problem on their hands with Maguire, and it needs to be resolved now.
