“He was unbelievable…” – Ruben Amorim makes huge claim about Manchester United star despite exit rumours

Ruben Amorim has made on a big claim on a player who has been linked with a move away from Manchester United this summer, after he made an error leading to the only goal of the game as his side lost to Arsenal.

Manchester United lost their first game of the campaign in a well fought game against Arsenal, and there was a huge amount to take positive from over the 90 minutes at Old Trafford. Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha were particularly impressive for the home side.

Andre Onana was left out of the line-up for reasons that Ruben Amorim made clear were not injury related, but many United fans were perhaps missing the Cameroonian after the error leading to a goal in the first 15 minutes of the game.

Onana has been linked with a move away from United, as links to the likes of Gianluigi Donnarumma and Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens have heated up in recent weeks. The club have also held talks with Emiliano Martinez.

A mistake today from Altay Bayindir may force United into the market for one of those three names in the coming days, but Ruben Amorim was strong in his backing of the player when asked a question regarding the goalkeepers error in the first half.

Amorim backs Bayindir after Arsenal game

Ruben Amorim has been speaking after his sides 1-0 loss to Arsenal, and has been clear in his backing of Altay Bayindir after his error leading to the games only game.

Bayindir wasn’t strong enough defending a Declan Rice cross from a corner, and palmed the ball straight into the path of Riccardo Calafiori, who bundled the ball over the line with his head to give the away side an undeserved lead.

Speaking after the game, Amorim had the following to say about the error, “Bayindir was unbelievable when he faced Arsenal last season! Mistake against Tottenham last season? Yes, and guess what? There wasn’t VAR! That’s why.”

The manager was also asked whether he should have started the other goalkeeper on the bench, Tom Heaton, instead of Bayindir, but the Portuguese was bullish in his response to the reporter who asked the question.

“Why?”.

It’s a huge vote of confidence for Bayindir, at least publicly, considering the amount of talk surrounding Manchester United’s potential pursuit of a brand new keeper before deadline day.

Lammens should come in at United

Manchester United are interested in Senne Lammens, and have held talks with the Belgian in recent weeks, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. The Belgian is a low cost, huge reward option, and he makes the most sense for the Reds.

Bayindir has made some clear errors since signing for United, as has Andre Onana, and if Amorim’s side are to be successful, they need to cut out the needless errors leading to needless goal that put unnecessary pressure on the team.

There is still time in the window for the Reds to make a move for a midfielder and a goalkeeper, and based off today’s performance, that could be enough to push them into the Champions League places.

An interesting couple of weeks ahead of United, who have got to go big in the market to make sure this season does not get away from them.
