“He was alluding…” – Gary Neville reveals what Ruben Amorim actually meant by ‘brave’ Man United comments

Ruben Amorim was furious after Manchester United’s recent defeat against West Ham and made a stern statement in his post-match press conference.

Manchester United can experience European glory next week in the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur but the domestic campaign has still been terrible.

Defeat against West Ham last weekend was hardly surprising, and the Reds will need to improve significantly nest season regardless of whether they come away with a trophy.

Ruben Amorim seems fully aware of that and looked at boiling point after the latest loss. He want onto say that the club must make “brave” decisions in the summer window.

Club legend Gary Neville has been speaking about the difficulties and what he thinks Amorim was alluding to with those comments.

Neville reveals what Amorim actually meant with ‘brave’ comment

Speaking on the Overlap fan debate this week, Neville suggesting that Amorim does not only want the board to back him in terms of signing players, but also taking the hit on selling those he doesn’t want at the club.

“That’s what I think he was saying by being brave, I think he was alluding to, ‘you are gonna have to back me’, and that means spending tens of millions to get rid of the players that you’ve signed previously,” Neville said. “And then bring in another tens of millions of players to actually give him what he wants.

“He’s already identifying that he’s under pressure that’s what I like about him, he will be under pressure in September, October, November if the same results are coming. He will be, there’s no getting away from it.

“Because it’s that bad, we’ve almost forgotten about it and to be honest it, from what he picked up from where we were he should have done better, and the players should have done better in the last part this season.

“I mean no one expected the dramatic drop that’s happened, you can’t say that he shouldn’t have done better but he’s spoken with such honesty and that we know the recruitment in the club has been a boring in the last three four five years… “

United must take a hit on summer sales

United have been terrible at selling players in recent years and Amorim has been reported to be keen to have a significant amount of exits this summer.

The Portuguese boss did the same in his first summer transfer window at Sporting, with over 20 players departing the club on permanent or loan deals.

There is a new regime at Old Trafford and they have to show improvements from how the previous hierarchy worked in terms of sales.

And like Neville mentioned, they might have to take a risk and lose some money on those players leaving the club, but it is something that seems like it needs to happen.
