Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that one Manchester United player’s future is still open despite his “incredible” performances under Rúben Amorim of late.
Manchester United are planning a significant summer overhaul as they prepare to back Rúben Amorim in the transfer market. The club aim to raise funds through player sales, moving on those who don’t fit the new manager’s system or long-term vision.
Victor Lindelöf and Christian Eriksen are both expected to leave when their contracts expire at the end of the season. United are not planning to offer new deals to either player.
Several loanees are also set to be sold, with Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia all unlikely to be part of Amorim’s plans moving forward. The club hope to generate substantial fees from their departures.
Casemiro is another player possibly heading for the exit, as the club shifts towards a younger, more dynamic profile better suited to Amorim’s tactical approach, while his current wage is a significant drain on the club’s resources.
Casemiro’s future is still open at United
In the last month, Casemiro has put in some “incredible” shifts under Amorim, with the player single-handedly orchestrating United’s stunning comeback win over Lyon earlier this month.
The veteran Brazilian won the penalty that Fernandes converted to put United back in the game, before providing assists for both Kobbie Mainoo’s equaliser and Harry Maguire’s winner.
But, despite his good performances of late, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that his sale is still a possibility should United receive a good offer, confirming he is not on United’s unsellable list.
“Yes, it’s still a possibility,” Romano explained in his GiveMeSport newsletter. “If a good proposal for player and club arrives, he can still leave.”
Should United keep Casemiro this summer?
Despite the player’s future remaining very up in the air, and his sale would make financial sense due to his high wage, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has already confirmed that the club would not be selling any player for purely monetary purposes.
“We won’t be selling players because of the state we are in financially,” Ratcliffe said earlier this year. “The club had got bloated, so we reduced that and will finish it with a lean and efficient organisation. That’s how we will address the costs.
“The player decisions will all be focused on how we are going to improve performance. That’s all.”
While it was assumed at the time that Casemiro’s sale was a dead cert, his performances in the last month have put him in good standing to remain part of Amorim’s squad for the coming season.
With United set to sign multiple young players this summer, keeping Casemiro alongside other experienced players such as Maguire and Bruno Fernandes would do well to help bed in many of the influx of talent set to join the club.
With United also seeing many young stars come through from the Academy, such as Harry Amass and Chido Obi, keeping Casemiro at the club if he continues to perform as he has done would be fantastic for United’s long-term development, despite the financial burden.
