Harry Maguire reveals Man United dressing room talk after Porto draw amid Erik ten Hag sack pressure
Harry Maguire has explained what was said in Manchester United’s dressing room after their 3-3 draw against FC Porto on Thursday evening.
Manchester United rescued a point against Porto, courtesy of a late header from Harry Maguire.
The match started at a blistering pace, with Marcus Rashford opening the scoring and Rasmus Højlund quickly adding a second after 20 minutes, both goals resulting from errors by Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa.
Porto responded swiftly, scoring twice in just seven minutes through Samu Omorodion and Pepe, leveling the score before half-time and shifting the momentum in their favour.
In the second half, Porto took the lead as Samu grabbed his second goal of the night with a well-executed cutback from the right. United’s defence struggled to contain the pressure.
Bruno Fernandes saw red for the second match in a row with 15 minutes left to play. After some heroic saves from André Onana, Maguire rose to head in a Christian Eriksen corner, securing a hard-fought draw for Erik ten Hag’s side.
After the game, United’s dressing room door was kept shut for longer than usual before Maguire exited to conduct post-match interview duties.
Asked about the lengthy period in the dressing room and what was said, Maguire told TNT Sports: “No, I think after every game you analyse and speak amongst yourself.
“The manager spoke, a few members of staff spoke and the players spoke as well. It’s pretty normal.
“I’ve been in many dressing rooms after the game where everyone has a chat and speaks about what we can do better.”
Ten Hag will be sweating ahead of a must-win game against Aston Villa on the weekend. He looks to be under more pressure than ever before and the performance on Thursday did not help.
