“Improve or get sold…” Harry Maguire warns Man United stars they are under threat
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has warned his teammates that they were not good enough this season, and must do better against Manchester City.
With the Premier League season at an end for another year, Maguire was one of United’s better players in a largely underwhelming campaign.
Finishing in 8th place with a negative goal difference, United under Erik ten Hag‘s ended the season with the club’s worst finish in league history.

Speaking to The Sun ahead of this weekend’s FA Cup final against Manchester City, Maguire reflected on the pressures that come after such a poor season for the Red Devils, explaining that Man United’s star players will be under threat after poor performances.
“It is what happens when you play for this club,” Maguire admitted. “If you don’t get good results, players get scrutinised, players get linked with a move away.
“They get sold, put on the transfer list and the manager will come under pressure. I have been here five years now so I know what happens.
“The manager is experienced enough to know it is part and parcel of being at this club. I am sure he can deal with that. It has been a really disappointing season from where we were a year ago. Everyone will admit that.
“Obviously, we have had a ridiculous number of injuries, a freak number. We have not dealt with it well enough. We should have managed more points than what we did. We have not performed well enough, and our performances should have been better.”
Despite the Premier League season being at a close, United have one last game to play, the FA Cup final against club rivals Manchester City.
The match, which may be Ten Hag’s last as United manager, will give the Red Devils one last shot at playing European football next season.
With a win against City placing United in the Europa League next season, Maguire admitted that beating the defending FA Cup champions would be a massive accomplishment:
“Obviously, Europe is something we need to push towards,” Maguire agreed. “It would be a great achievement to win the Cup against a team who are playing really well.”
