Harry Amass transfer twist emerges as manager makes public ‘belief it can happen’ claim

A fresh twist about Harry Amass’ future has emerged following his return to Manchester United from Sheffield Wednesday.

Since his departure in the 2025 summer transfer window to join Sheffield Wednesday on loan, Manchester United Academy graduate Harry Amass has impressed during his time with the Owls so far.

Despite Wednesday’s poor form in the League this season, Amass has still been able to firmly establish himself in the starting eleven, gaining valuable minutes and experience for a player so young in his career, having started 21 of the 22 games he has played at just 18.

However, with Wednesday hit with major points deductions and relegation almost seeming like a formality, it was uncertain whether Amass would return to Wednesday for the remainder of the season.

Nevertheless, when speaking recently, the club’s manager, Henrik Pedersen, now appears more confident that the Owls will be able to retain the youngster until the end of the season.

Pedersen believes he can re-sign Amass

In his post-match press conference following defeat to Brentford in the FA Cup last weekend, Pedersen revealed that he was beginning to feel more positive about Amass returning to Wednesday to see the rest of the season out.

He went on to say, “With Harry, there is good communication, but we’ve not finalised anything. So in the end I don’t know where that will end, but I’m still positive. I think I’m between hopeful and confident about it.

“It’s more than just hope, because there is also a belief that it can happen. But there are still many circumstances in the big picture. However, I have hope and belief that it can still happen. So let’s see how things go in the next few days.

“I hope that there will be a decision soon, because otherwise we have to think what we will do instead of him.”

Where will Amass end up?

With the future still uncertain for the youngster, where Amass will be come the end of the January transfer window is still up in the air with no formal move made by Wednesday as of yet.

However, following Pederson’s evident confidence during his press conference last weekend on the Amass situation, it is now increasingly likely that Wednesday will return to United by the end of the month to further extend the loan deal.

The only uncertainty that could potentially come between this move, however, would be how United’s new interim manager, Michael Carrick, could view the situation.

Carrick may view Amass as being of potential value to United’s 1st team squad and look to continue his integration into the squad as Amorim began last season, as Amass may now have shown enough to prove he deserves a place in Carrick’s United squad.
