Harry Amass sends ‘determined’ message after Norwich City setback, Shea Lacey responds

Harry Amass’ time at Norwich City has started in an unfortunate manner after he suffered an injury in training last week.

Manchester United made the decision to send Harry Amass out on loan at the beginning of the season after he broke through into the first-team during the 2024/25 campaign.

Amass, 18, looked impressive when he appeared for Ruben Amorim’s side last term but it was decided that consistent football this term would be better for him.

That is why he moved to Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday, who have been given two separate points deductions this term leaving them at the bottom of the table.

Even though there were clear difficulties at the club, Amass was one of their best players and played 21 league fixtures, starting all of them and playing 90 minutes in 20 of them.

It was a successful move for the player but United decided to move him to Norwich City in the January transfer window and he made his debut off the bench in their 2-1 win over league-leaders Coventry City last week.

Amass sends ‘determined’ message after Norwich setback

Amass would have been looking to build on a positive debut for Norwich and force his way into the starting lineup but he was absent for their following game against Middlesborough.

It was later revealed that the youngster had picked up a hamstring injury in training which would leave him out of action for a significant amount of time. Reports have suggested that he has returned to Carrington for further tests this week.

But the youngster does not want this injury to define his season and he has claimed that he is ‘determined’ to return to the pitch soon for the Championship side.

On Instagram, Amass wrote: “I’m gutted to have picked up an injury in training. Obviously this is not how I wanted my time at Norwich to start.

“However, I am determined to get back on the pitch as soon as possible. This is a set back I haven’t faced before, but I’m in a good mindset with good people around me to come back stronger.”

Amass received a lot of support in the comments section of his post, with Shea Lacey and Arsenal talent Max Dowman both replying with love-heart emojis. Tyler Fredricson and Jack Fletcher also put supportive messages.

Amass will be eyeing United spot next season

At Old Trafford, there is certainly an interesting dynamic over the left-back position going forward. Luke Shaw has excelled in the role since Michael Carrick reverted to a four-at-the-back formation.

But everyone knows that the 30-year-old will not be able to play twice a week next season should United return to Europe, and recent weeks have also suggested that Patrick Dorgu might be better suited to a role on the wing instead of the defence.

Amass will be looking at that situation and thinking that he can challenge Shaw, and potentially Dorgu, for that role next season when United will be playing many more games.

Of course, his current priority is returning to fitness and playing as much as possible for Norwich before the end of the season, but it is certainly something to keep an eye on when next season comes around.
